Big Series Begins Tonight…
June 3, 2008WFNY Gets “Social”
June 4, 2008Rangers 12, Indians 7 (box)
Perhaps the Tribe should have went with Brian Slocum after all. Last night’s starter ended up being Tom Mastny, and it is never good when you go to check the box score on your phone and Jensen Lewis is pitching…in the second inning.
Mastny’s first start went like so:
– I. Kinsler singled to left |
– M. Young flied out to right |
– J. Hamilton homered to deep center, I. Kinsler scored |
– M. Bradley homered to deep right center |
– D. Murphy doubled to deep center |
– B. Boggs singled to left, D. Murphy scored |
– F. Catalanotto struck out swinging |
– J. Saltalamacchia walked, B. Boggs to second |
– R. Vazquez grounded out to second |
4 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors |
Read: Not good.
The second inning didn’t start off much better.
– I. Kinsler singled to left |
– I. Kinsler stole second |
– M. Young struck out swinging |
– J. Hamilton intentionally walked |
– M. Bradley walked, I. Kinsler to third, J. Hamilton to second |
– J. Lewis relieved T. Mastny |
That pesky Ian Kinsler. Thankfully for the Tribe, Lewis only allowed one of the three inherited baserunners to score. And it should go without saying that Tom Mastny’s bags are already packed for Buffalo.
Part of me wants to talk about how the bats were working once again, and if it weren’t for the last-minute starting pitching we could have had another one. Fifteen hits is nothing to be ashamed about, but we continue to only produce against the Texas Rangers. After a huge night that saw him provide seven runs batted in, Casey Blake was the only member of the starting lineup to not get a hit on Tuesday night.
Shin-Soo Choo was a pinch-hitter in the seventh and provided his best game since being called-up from Triple-A Buffalo. Choo provided a two-run double as well as a solo home run – but it was too little, too late.
Cliff Lee takes the hill tonight, hopefully allowing the Tribe to take the series lead. He was bailed out by the bats against the Royals during his last time out. If this pattern continues, he’ll need the run support once again as these Rangers sure can rake.

Can someone help me understand why Sowers isn’t up right now?
he pitched on Sunday, i believe.
Seven innings. I assume that’s who we’ll bring up for Mastny – we just needed someone for last night. I bet they didn’t even give Tom a locker….
I’m interested to go other places, I’ve been the boy in the bubble since we’ve been shooting, I need to go travel a little bit, see where the action is, other than going to see family, of course.
