Carmona Leaves With Injured Leg
May 23, 2008Can Lee Rebound?
May 24, 2008Rangers 13, Indians 9 (box)
Too little, too late. I guess.
The bats finally come alive, but it isn’t enough to make up for the pitching that allowed an amazing 17 hits by the Texas Rangers. As I mentioned here, it’s unfortunate that Fausto Carmona is pegged with the loss after Jorge Julio gave up five earned runs in only 1.2 innings pitched.
It’s just frustrating when a team that has only scored two runs per game over the last two weeks finally puts up nine, and it isn’t enough.
A few things worth mentioning about this one:
– Victor Martinez was a late scratch with a finger injury, but if Ben Francisco keeps this up (more on this in a second), we could move V-Mart back to the five-hole in no time.
– Fausto Carmona will reportedly undergo an MRI today to see the extent of what is now being called a hip injury. He’ll likely be day-to-day, but we’ll see.
– If he doesn’t go on the DL, and we need to clear space for someone to start, I have no reservations in simply cutting Jorge Julio. He’s brought nothing to this team.
– Ben Francisco went 3-for-5 from the clean-up slot in this one, knocking in two. He was absolutely robbed of a home run off of the railing in left field that the umpires deemed a double. Eric Wedge got ejected, but this is the third time that this has happened this week. I honestly couldn’t have cared less that something happened to the Yankees, but now that it’s extending outside of New York, something has to be done. This play totally changed the game, and simply put a screeching hault on the momentum. I would expect to hear more about this over the weekend. (Note: I’ll try and find the video later today)
– Mark Shapiro is apparently realizing that he botched this off-season. Welcome to the party.
– This losing streak is now the longest we’ve endured since 2004. We went 80-82 that season, and finished 15 games behind the Red Sox in the Wild Card race. Take it for what it’s worth.

On my way out the door and wanted to check in before I left. That Shapiro article- it says we designated Breslow for assignment to make room for Borowski? That makes sense. I mean it’s not like Breslow had the lowest era among Tribe relievers…oh wait he did. Nice.
The umpires have been making a ton of bad calls lately. The Carlos Delgado homerun call in New York epitomizes this trend. However, I heard that Major League Baseball may implement instant-replay features in the future.
Anyways, would you like to trade links? My blog is available at http://dodgersblog.mlblogs.com
I like and don’t like the idea of replay in baseball. I like the idea of getting tough calls right like home runs and possibly the bang-bang plays. What I don’t like is the possible Pandora’s Box you open creating annoying delays. I also fear the effect replay will have on the ballpark experience. In my opinion baseball is the best of all other sports in the stadium experience. Will delays for replay adversely change this?
