Westbrook lands on DL

April 22, 2008With the Miami Dolphins announcing today that Jake Long (OT – Michigan) will be the first overall selection in this year’s NFL Draft, Rivals.com took matters into their own hands to create slide-shows of the 10 best and 10 worst top selections ever. And while there’s no telling where Long will fit into this scope over the next few seasons, it will likely come as no surprise that the Browns were mentioned in the “worst” slide-show.
Not once, but twice.
You got it. Though this slide-show dates back to about 1972, the Browns managed to receive two bids in Courtney Brown (number eight) and Tim Couch (number four). Needless to say, you can see why things had been rough dating up to last season. Two picks. Back-to-back years. Complete busts.
I can’t believe that Couch only threw for three 300-yard games during his whole career.
And just an aside, does anyone think that Parcells going with Long first-overall has anything to do with the successes of the Browns via Joe Thomas?

I am so glad that the day is here when this is actually behind us and we have something to look forward to. I always felt bad for Couch…. I think me, my mother, my daughter, my beagle, and my church choir director (I don’t really have a church choir director but i thought that was kind of funny) could have made a better front five for poor Couch.
Couch actually put up decent numbers when you consider his supporting cast. a terrible offensive line, 0 quality running backs while he was here, and the best WR he had was Kevin Johnson. And his QB rating was still around 75 or 77. Those aren’t good numbers but with what he had to work with it was the best he could do and to expect more is unrealistic. i am not saying he could have been a star but he could have been a good QB with a decent O-line,a 1,000 yard rusher, and some receivers to throw to. its a shame his arm went dead, maybe he could have made something of himself elsewhere
How much of that do you attribute to the HGH? 🙂
