4/01/08 Morning Minute- Hijacked!
April 1, 2008I have to tell you this story…
April 1, 2008One thing you can bet on this season is the Detroit Media following every move made by their ex-defensive tackle Shaun Rogers as he does his thing a few miles south on I-75.
Today, the Detroit News has a glowing report of Rogers only weighing about 350 lbs, instead of the rumored 400. Romeo Crennel had the following to say:
“He looks decent,” Crennel said. “He reported at a decent weight. He wasn’t sloppy or anything like that. I think once he gets involved in the program, we’ll find out exactly where he is, conditioning-wise.”
While I wish Crennel would have thrown in something like “He wasn’t quite Ted Washington,” I guess I’ll settle for “decent.” Obviously, Rogers’ issues with weight as well as work ethic are well-documented. Lions fans are thrilled to have gotten something of value for the defensive linemen, while Browns fans are thrilled to actually have a defensive lineman.
I did find it a bit odd that the article mentioned using Rodgers as a right end, as I figured the big man to be used extensively as a nose tackle in the 3-4 set. He would likely just get in the way of a blitzing linebacker if he’s pushed outside. But, again, this could be one of the reasons why I’m not a coach in the NFL. Just one.

They want him to be right end and Williams to be left end with Shaun Smith staying at the nose. They are pretty high on him.
