If Last Night Was A Comic Book…
April 17, 2008Draft Day: Bank on DBs
April 17, 2008I’m being told that there was actually a Cavs game last night. Odd that they consider it a “game” when both LeBron James and Zydrunas Ilgauskas are inactive, but I’m sure some fans got some excellent deals on tickets.
Regardless, something that was much-needed occurred last night: Actual playing time for Wally Szczerbiak.
Wally World had totaled a mere 10 minutes over the previous two games, so seeing him log over 40 in this one was good for both Szczerbiak as a player and likely the team as it heads into the playoffs.
Mental boosts can work wonders, so let’s hope that this can be classified as one.
With Sasha Pavlovic likely missing the majority of the playoffswith an ankle injury, this team is going to need some big things from the Szczerbiak in terms of shot-creation and more importantly, execution. There will be countless times where someone will be open in the wing, whether it be Damon Jones (assuming he get some PT), Wally or even Daniel Gibson. The key will be hitting those open looks.
Wally finished with 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting, which isn’t terrible. Oddly, he didn’t even attempt a three-point field goal throughout the entire game. He also added five rebounds and a steal. We’ll find out really soon if Mike Brown will have Szczerbiak in the rotation for the post-season. I have a feeling it’ll be in Wally’s hands at first. Take and make good shots, he’s in. Otherwise, he’ll be telling jokes to Dwayne Jones for the next few weeks.
