Cavaliers Preview Game #70
March 20, 2008Browns sign LB
March 21, 2008When Drew Gooden was shipped to Chicago in the deadline deal, one thing that we mentioned at WFNY was the fact that LeBron was not the biggest advocate of the power forward. These rumors were around for a while, as James was frequently baffled by the big man leaving his feet on defense, receiving passes with his face and making some decisions that left fans scratching their heads. But after reading Brian Windhorst’s piece today, it appears that James’ dislike for Gooden goes a little deeper.
In Brian’s blog regarding last night’s game, there was this blurb:
Apparently this all goes deeper. LeBron said something to Drew Gooden, one of Stevenson’s boys, about Stevenson once and Gooden passed it along (I don’t think this makes Drew a favorite in the LeBron world, either).
“We’re all in the same profession,” Stevenson said. “We don’t need to talk bad about one another. So, that’s how it happened. I was ticked off and that’s why I said something to him at tip-off. So, it goes back further than people think.”
So, two things come from this. 1) Drew Gooden’s whole beard-growing deal is apparently backed by a friendship the fellow foolish-looking Stevenson. And 2) I’m willing to bet that James couldn’t wait for Gooden to be sent somewhere, and may have even packed his bags for him.
Of course, there’s the whole issue with Souja Boy and Jay-Z; all of which I couldn’t care less about. Stevenson apparently has issues with James being friends with the hip-hop mogul. If LeBron really wanted to get back at Stevenson, I’m sure he can mention this, or even this. But I’m sure he’ll keep the gloves up and let the hip-hop jabs continue to slide, all without the help of Gooden playing Telephone.
