Cavaliers Preview Game #51
February 11, 2008Hughes’ big night equals big win for Cavs
February 12, 2008Picks Of The Week – February 11, 2008
Well, Matt didn’t believe me that he was nuts last week, and now he doesn’t believe me again that this game has disaster written all over it for the Cavaliers. Obviously it’s a large spread, but when you look at the history of teams on the road at the back end of back-to-games against the spread, combined with the injury situation of the Cavaliers and the recent success of the Magic against the Cavaliers, and it looks like a sucker’s bet. But the first rule of gambling is that when everyone and their mother is going one way, the smart bet is to go the other way….and that’s exactly what Matt has done. As always, these picks are just for fun.

I promise this is not a knee jerk reaction to my first loss since the inception of the GAMBLOG. It’s 4:00 on a busy Monday and it’s about the time I check the upcoming night’s spreads. To my surprise I see my Cavaliers getting 8.5 points. My first reaction is that it’s a sucker bet to get every LeBron and Cavalier fan to go double or nothing on their weekend losses, but then I thought about it for second. How often do the Cavs lose back to back games, let alone get blown out in back to games. It happened quite a bit earlier this season, but not lately. I know, I know, we are without half of our team though. My opinion is, however, that there is no way the Cavs lose big on back to back nights at this point in the season, even if LeBron is the only Cavalier left breathing on the court. My only hope is that it’s close enough in the fourth quarter that LeBron actually plays until the end of the game. As for all these Cavalier injuries, I think it’s time we get these guys some HGH.
I’m either rebounding strong, or going on my first back to back losing streak ATS this season.

In my defense, I never figured Hughes would have 20 points, let alone freaking 40!! Wow, what a performance.
While this win is nice, let’s hope that Z’s back doesn’t become a lingering issue for the rest of the season…
