Countdown to free agency…
February 28, 2008Guess who’s staying for dinner?
February 29, 2008Yep. He’ll fit right in
Well, it appears that Anderson (and/or his agent) are set on a long-term Tony Romo-like contract, and have not accepted the current $20 million ($10 million guaranteed) offer that is on the table. Thus, our Pro Bowl quarterback can be yours for a first and third round draft pick!
Yes, I’m talking to you Miami! You too, Atlanta! Hey there, Minnesota!
We could definitely use a draft pick or two, as our first round pick belongs to Dallas, and our second round selection is now in the hands of Green Bay.
The Browns are now the proud owner of Corey Williams, the 27-year old defensive lineman whom was once franchised by the Packers. Coming to Cleveland will require a multi-year deal, but he shouldn’t bank on it trumping that of Tommy Kelly (7 years, $50 million). If this deal doesn’t show fans (and the team alike) that Savage is looking to upgrade the defense, I don’t know what will.
A second-round pick may prove to be a bit high for someone that we still have to sign, but if Williams’ 14 sacks in the last two seasons is any indication of what he can bring to this team, you can bet that Kamerion Wimbley will be seeing a lot fewer double-teams on the right side.
There are still some rumblings of adding to the offense. Names like Bernard Barrian and Drew Carter (another Clevelander?) have floated around, but there is no denying that defense is the priority.
Count me in on the group that is excited to see if Jensen Lewis can continue to evolve. Kid was amazing in some very crucial spots last year. His scoreless third inning yesterday? Hopefully a sign of things to come.
Could the Detroit Pistons be landing a defensive presence of their own? Or could it just be the expiring contract which they long for. And it definitely looks like the Celtics will get their veteran. The pressure is on.
And finally, while I will miss his coaching on the sidelines, Bobby Knight is a awesome addition to the college basketball staff at ESPN.
Enjoy your Friday, all.
