Jackets Playoff Push Update – 4/2
April 2, 2009Donte Stallworth Hopes for Reasonable Doubt
April 2, 2009With the start of the season right around the corner, I thought it would be good to mention a few random things that really don’t pertain much to the actual play on the field…
– Plenty of teams will be rolling out new alternative road jerseys as well as commemorative patches for their new stadiums and such. The Tribe, however, will only be rocking a patch that memorializes the late, great pitcher/broadcaster Herb Score. Check it out to the right courtesy of Paul Lukas.
– Perusing the promotional giveaway schedule, a few things jump out…
Of course, those that attend opening day will get their requisite magnetic calendar. Those that attend later in the weekend may stumble upon one as well. And since it’ll likely be a bit brisk, Saturday’s game will feature free scarfs.
The team comes strong once again with a variety of bobbleheads. Kerry Wood gets the first nod (playing the odds that he’ll be healthy at the time of release), followed by Cliff Lee with a Cy Young award, Shin-Soo Choo (in eighties gear?), Ricky Vaughn (give ’em the heater), ” Sufin” Grady Sizemore, Victor Martinez in some massive-looking catchers gear.
Rounding up the season, the team will be giving away a pretty cool blanket on September 12th that features all of the old logos.
– Why do I find it hard to believe that the “Hot Tickets” right now consist of April games against the Blue Jays and Royals?
– Want a Travis Hafner autographed ball? Then sign up for a credit card and make a “qualifying” purchase.
– We mentioned the NHL/Blue Jackets joining the St. Patrick’s day gear movement. I have to say that that makes a bit more sense than an Indians version of the same thing, being that the Blue Jackets are actually in season during St. Patrick’s day.
– And finally, want a free ticket to an Aeros game? Just enter your birth date over at the team site and they’ll ship you an email for your printing. Take it with you and get your ticket at the gate. Nothing wrong with free.
– Only four more days until “Hi Again, Ev’rybody.”

Ha nice little touch about the Aeros there. They should be stacked this year..
Getting to watch Carlos Santana for free sounds good to me!
Why does the Victor Martinez bobblehead look like Jhonny Peralta?
Why do I have a feeling you’ll be able to get a Travis Hafner autographed ball for free at a Columbus Clippers game if you wait 3 months…
I’m coming in to Cleveland next week, and would in theory be able to go to the Sunday game. The question is… is it worth it to sit in the freezing cold that day?
Scott, how could you overlook the greatest of all promotional giveaways: Free Money Night (June 27 vs. CIN), where all fans 18+ receive envelopes of money?! That’s either the most brilliant or the laziest promotion ever.
As for the “Hot Tickets” including the Royals, I wouldn’t be took quick to scoff. The buzz is that this could be the year they contend in what is likely to be a tight division. I laughed when I heard that about the D-Rays last year at this time, and look what happened. Now I certainly don’t think we’re talking “Your 2009 American League Champion Kansas City Royals”, but they could be a tough beat this year.
correction: “too quick”, not “took quick”.
B-bo: I dont disagree with that. In fact, I puposely went to two different KC games last season to watch Gordon, Butler, etc. I just don’t think that the casual ticket-buying fan looks at the prospects of a small market team.
Those blankets look awesome! Whats better than going to see the team you love play and getting free stuff?
Thanks for the tip on the Aeros Bday Ticket Giveaway. My wife and I both have April birthdays. Free date night, thats what I am talking about. Heck yes.
I picked a lot of our tickets from our shared season ticket plan based on the giveaways (blanket, Wild Thing bobblehead, Grady bobbles).
I love that blanket, def want that. Also, good b-day promotion.
I can’t wait for “SWUNG ON AND BELTED, A WWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAYYYYYY BACK! FOUL!”
Well, since my birthday is in OCTOBER, I guess chances are slim to none that I would see an Aeros game that late….. Love to see the Indians playing in October though!! Maybe THIS year… yeah.
