Last week I opined on the many, many negatives of the Indians keeping David Dellucci on the opening day roster. Well, maybe the Baseball Gods were listening to not only me, but the rest of the Wahoo Nation, because this afternoon, a roster move was made.
Big Dave Dellucci was placed on the 15-day DL with his strained left calf muscle. Trevor Crowe, who has opened many eyes with his all around excellent play this spring, has been recalled and will start the season as the extra outfielder. Now, manager Eric Wedge has the ability to go to his bench not once, but twice for speed and defense, with Crowe and utility man Josh Barfield.
Dellucci will now make his third appearance on the DL in two plus years in the Red, White, and Blue. As a wise man once said: Serenity Now.

It’s 15 days, second I am glad your happy about it, even if you don’t like him as a player, could you at least remember he is a human being and to wish someone injured thats just bad, I don’t care for some of the players on the team but I am not about to wish them injured, that is just plain…. I give up.
I wish Trevor the best and hope he enjoys his experience up here and learns what he needs to learn. Before anyone thinks I mean that in a bad way, WRONG! Every player minor or major learns something new about themselves and others and the game everyday.
I just hope he gets the chance to learn up here. If Dellucci is the fifth OFer, Crowe may not get many at-bats in the 15days.
TS, where do you see once in this post or the post from last week that he “wished” injury on anyone? He simply stated DD doesn’t belong on the team.
Please read the actual posts before making baseless assumptions.
That being said, I’m not exactly crying over this happenstance.
I think Crowe would be better served playing everyday at Columbus. Maybe they should carry an extra pitcher instead since Barfield and Garko can both play the OF now.
Hopefully Crowe can take advantage of this opportunity and not give it back the same way Sizemore did when Juan Gonzalez got hurt a few years back. While it’s terrible that the guy got hurt, this team is better off without DD. It doesn’t take Buster Olney to figure that out. So this is great news. GO TRIBE!
Also think Crowe would benefit from being in the lineup daily, but you never know what may be about to happen. I still expect a trade for a pitcher soon, which may change the outfield configuration. Feels kind of familiar: a young, promising outfielder is the last cut, he never unpacks because of a late injury … Isn’t this how the “Legend of Grady Sizemore” was born?
Crowe has been an up-and-down minor leaguer mostly in Akron for the last several years and a very fortunate last ten months or so for him has put him in this position. He is speedy and opportunistic on the base paths, and his ceiling as a prospect is as a decent lead-off or #2 hitter and every day LF, provided he can develop more plate discipline. He is not great in the outfield, possibly the Indians fault for trying to move him to second base two years ago. He might be fast, but does not have a very good arm out in the field, and it is through his hot bat that he was put in this position. Good luck former Arizona Wildcat!!
Well Chris, you’re the one assuming as well, that I never actually read the story, and two I never said the writer wished him injured I said “and to wish someone injured thats just bad,” I have been to many sites that do tend to wish someone injured, hence the reason I said that.
You see, the only way it would be a bad thing to wish someone injured is if you had that power. Assuming that none of us has any power as witch doctors or supreme rulers of the universe, and seeing as in my experience my negative energy spells fail to reach their targets 100% of the time, I think we are ok in wishing people injured.
Now, if all of a sudden the great provider in the universe or whatever grants me the ability to strike people injured just by my wishing, I will take more care with my new found powers. Til that time, I will feel free to wish anyone injured that I feel like it because it isn’t currently in my list of abilities.
Then again, TD it looks like you might have just succeeded with one, so be careful. You might want to test this new power out on a farm animal or something before someone else gets hurt.

Honestly I don’t care what you infer from it. I have said my peace, explained what I meant. If you have a problem with what I said that really isn’t my problem. I think my time coming here has come to an end as I can fully see what this site is really like and honestly it sucks. So instead of responding to me may I suggest you just use your energy with someone else. Now you and everyone have a real nice day.

Oh Yeah one last thing to answer your question a bit further usually when wish someone to the DISABLED LIST (as a “Dream come true”), that infers something in itself. Now I am leaving and have a nice day.

I wrote earlier that I was a new Indians fan…following the DeRosa trade,and questioned why the rise and fall of the Indians seemed to rest on Dellucci’s shoulders,when last year#1,he didn’t play much,and #2,those every day players didn’t get the team to the playoffs…now I read that the “BASEBALL GODS”must have been listening…sending Dellucci to the DL….I’ve been a baseball fan my entire life,followed teams through their ups and downs….I’ve prayed to those baseball “gods”on a number of occasions,but never once wishing some one injury…..if the entire wahoo nation has been praying for this…I believe I’ll re-think my cross over to a “nation” that wish ill of one of their own…I will ,however,pray for Mark DeRosa…and hope that your “baseball gods “don’t watch over him…
I for one didn’t think Delluci to the DL and “Maybe Dreams Do Come True?” were related. I thought they were two separate, cogent thoughts that happened to be listed in order.

I have to chime in.
The colon following “Dellucci to the DL” and “Maybe Dreams Do Come True?” does nothing but imply (not infer, that’s what a reader does) that Dellucci’s landing on the DL fulfills a dream. The ambiguity of this (is the dream that Crowe gets the roster spot rather than Dellucci or that Dellucci get injured) makes it a witty headline, if you have the appropriate sense of humor for it to be witty. Maybe the ambiguity wasn’t intended, but in that case, I’d exercise the principle of charity and think the dream for Crowe to be active rather than Dellucci. Of course, not a word was said in the post in the way of sympathy for Dellucci, and the post ends with “Serenity Now,” following another mention of Dellucci’s injury, so I don’t see why it’s so absurd to think that the post is reveling in his pain. And if that’s the case, that is pretty off-putting.
Chiming in to LaundroMat’s chime: Fine points, LM, and we could surely extend the principle of charity, as you call it, by noting that “Serenity Now” is also ambiguous. Honestly, when I first read it, it was as a call to be serene in one’s assessment of the change, rather than, say, hostile in one’s assessments of the injured player. That is also one possible way to read it. Of course, you kept the doors of interpretation open when you wrote, “and if that’s the case,” so I am not disagreeing with you here. But the principle of charity in this case may extend further than you had initially seen.
In general, I don’t understand the implied principle of certain comments in the above thread, which is that fans have no business criticizing members of the team they support. I appreciate a wide range of perspectives, and the comments made at WFNY about Dellucci the player, as opposed to Dellucci the man (a point that hasn’t been raised), have been supported with evidence and made respectfully, if at times sardonically.

I think it’s hilarious that people automatically jump to the conclusion that TD is happy the guy got hurt, rather than just happy that Delucci is NOT ON THE ROSTER AT THE MOMENT.
But, what do I know? All this inferring and implication is making me hungry.
TD’s article is fine.. He never said he wanted the guy hurt. The headline maybe is a bit over the top, but cut TD some slack. If any of you aren’t pumped to see T-Crowe play, than you are liars.

DD is getting paid this year more than most people will see in their entire lifetime. He hurt his frickin’ calf. He didn’t have a life threatening injury and if he wants to come back with this team or another I’m sure he still can.

Funny stuff you crazy commentors… keep it up! I’m with DP’s assessment, and I’m in the same boat as TD if that is the case. Not happy that DD got injured because that sucks for him, but happy that Crowe is getting his spot on the roster.
@BJ, I know there are 162 games in the season, but every one is important and so the Crowe for Delucci swap really could make a difference. Would you rather see the Indians holding onto a 1 run lead with David Delucci trying to track down a deep fly ball or Trevor Crowe? If the Indians are down a run in the bottom of the ninth and you have the option to bring in Crowe as a pinch runner to get a steal and get into scoring position, don’t you want that option? It’s not end-of-the-world important, but it’s reasonably important. Every player is, and this just happens to be the one topic that is open to some kind of debate, so it gets talked about a lot.

I don’t know how much more David Delucci i can take. I would never wish for someone to get hurt, but maybe he can slip on a ball and break his arm a la Rookie of The Year. At this point, its our only hope for him to throw someone out at the plate.
