Train Keeps Rollin’ – Jackets Outlast Blackhawks
March 14, 2009Ohio State Upsets Michigan State, Heads to Big Ten Finals
March 14, 2009By now, you have likely heard that Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth is being detained for his possible role in the death of a Miami, Florida pedestrian.
The Browns have released an official statement. If you would like to call it that.
We are aware of the incident involving Donte Stallworth and have been in contact with his representatives. We understand the seriousness of this situation, but will not have any further comment at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
Essentially, a way to say “no comment” in 40 words. We will likely find out more about this situation in time – possibly including the results of the alleged blood test.
Thoughts go out to those involved in the incident, as this extends beyond the scope of football at this point.

Wow. Hopefully this was an accident with no drugs or alcohol involved.
Just hearing about this……my thoughts and prayers go out to the individual involved in this tragedy and his/her family. If Mr. Stallworth ends up having any criminal culpability resulting in the death of another human being than I trust that the full force of the law/legal system will mete out justice.
It sounds like Stallworth may have been doing a little boozing. Horrible.

Pro Football Talk is not always the most accurate…I am waiting for judgment on this one. Hope you will too.
Its tasteless, I know.
But if Stallworth is convicted of something, does that make it possible to void his contract?
#5… i was thinking the same thing. Thoughts go out to the victim’s family though.
With a nearly 5-million dollar roster bonus, I doubt his actual cap number is very high. The bonus he received was guaranteed so the Browns can’t really do anything there. Obviously you never want something like this to happen, but for the victim’s family at least the timing will allow them to take Donte’s bonus via a civil suit. I know that is no compensation for a losing a family member but at least they will be provided for.
PFT is reporting that he had a BAC above .08. Will await confirmation.
This will definitely be a time when Mankok…….specifically the “GM” Kokinis will need to step to the plate and show leadership. Not a time to be hiding from the media or the public.
No the NFL is brutal with cap space… I think there’s been cases of guys dying and they dont get the cap space relief even for that…
Aside from the sadness of a person dying… a few thoughts:
One web site said he had 4 patrons and 2 margaritas…. The hard part is what does this mean – equalling 10 shots of booze (probably at least 1.5 oz’s in each shot and 3 in the marg’s… so assume 10-12 fluid oz’s of booze…. plus that’s assuming that’s all he had…
The web sites I saw with his 6′ 200 lb frame, would say 10 drinks even minus 7 hours still puts you around a .0-1.1 BAC… Uh oh.
THings like if he had lots of food, size of drinks might adjust that… My best friend had a union mtg where they explained if you get hammered… your’s still legally impaired driving in the next day… so this looks worse and worse.
I’m no saint but this is so sad, alarming, etc.
bridgecrosser………remember, this occured around 7AM.
Sources: Stallworth expected to be charged
By Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports
Miami police have indicated that Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth is expected to be charged as a result of the driving accident that killed a pedestrian early Saturday morning, two sources with knowledge of the investigation said.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, which includes results of a blood test for drugs or alcohol, the sources said driving under the influence, vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving were among the possible charges.
“The police seem pretty confident that they’re going to charge him,” a source with the NFL said. “ … Even if he [is] clean, I think the police feel he’s going to be charged with something, regardless.”
The Miami Herald reported Sunday that a witness to the crash that killed 59-year-old Mario Reyes said it appeared that Stallworth, who has a home in South Florida, drove his Bentley around a stopped vehicle to beat a red light.
A detective source was also told that the police anticipated charging Stallworth, who was reportedly cooperative with police and distraught over Reyes’ death.
“I think it looks like to the police that Stallworth wasn’t being careful, at the very least,” the second source said.
Reyes was leaving his job as an overnight crane operator and trying to get to a bus stop on the southeast end of MacArthur Causeway. The causeway connects Miami Beach to downtown Miami. According to co-workers, Reyes, who left Cuba for Miami as a teenager, was on his way home.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league was “monitoring” the situation. Stallworth had no known history of trouble with the law prior to the accident.
Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns in 2008.
Miami Herald has video of Stallworth getting DUI test at the accident scene.

No way we can trade Braylon
This man is an employee of the Cleveland Browns, as such I expect the Browns to be accountable and professional should the matter dictate such.
