While We’re Waiting… NBA Jam, Cliff Lee on Alex Rodriguez, and Shaquille O’Neal with the JabbaWockeeZ (In HD!)
February 17, 2009Could Cavs Land Antawn Jamison for Wally Szczerbiak?
February 17, 2009Given that the current rumor that is circulating through NBA circles actually stems from the Chicago Sun-Times, I’ll go on record saying that we should take it all with a grain of salt. But, since we’re all suckers for the latest buzz…
The Amare Stoudemire trade talk still has the Bulls among the teams most involved, but a new scenario making the rounds has the Bulls taking part in a three-team deal that would bring Toronto Raptors star Chris Bosh to Chicago.
The rumored swap would send Stoudemire to Toronto and land the Phoenix Suns a package of players and draft picks from the Bulls, likely to include Drew Gooden and his expiring $7.2 million contract, Tyrus Thomas and a first-round pick.
So, using the same package that was once rumored to be heading to Phoenix for Stoudemire without the use of a third team, the Sun-Times believes that they can actually upgrade their returns by landing Chris Bosh. Danny Ferry may be on record saying that he appears to be standing pat with the trade deadline looming, but what the Sun-Times article fails to mention is that Amare holds the keys to this ride. He wants to win a championship. If traded, he would land on a contender. I would love to hear how heading to Toronto, with Chris Bosh no longer there, would be a better means to achieve this goal.
And to quickly compare assets, the only thing that I see (with an admittedly biased eye) above that Chicago has more than the Cavaliers is the placement of that first-round draft pick. The rumored deal with the Cavs has JJ Hickson and Wally Szczerbiak’s expiring contract. Isn’t Wally’s expiring deal of $13 million more valuable than Drew Gooden’s $7 million? At this stage, could we say that Hickson’s upside is at least that of Tyrus Thomas – who has already been in the league for a handful of seasons and has shown nothing short of inconsistency? Just saying…
I know that Bosh rumors have been around for a few weeks now, saying that he plans on skipping town. And he just may. But I highly doubt that he gets moved to Chicago. At least in the deal listed above, anyway.
(Update: Steve Kerr suggests that Amare may be staying put.)

Grasping at straws. Must have needed to put an article out on a slow news day.
If this actually happens I’d be shocked and very disappointed because the Cavs reportedly have offered a much better deal for the Suns, as you said.
But this is what the next three days are gonna be full of, speculation. If you put a bunch of crazy stories out there and one comes true, you get to ignore the 17 times you were wrong, and trumpet the one time you were right.
Great article by BW just now in the PD about the Cav’s targets for trades:
[Plain Dealer]
I’m with you Scott. Tyrus Thomas? Are you kidding me? I know Steve Kerr has his knee-jerk reactions ( see O’Neal, Shaq ) but if this goes down, this would be a Stepienistic move for Phoenix. Unfortunately, it would make 2 teams in the east imminently stronger, one of them being the Bulls. I really dread the thought of seeing Bosh in a Bulls uniform.
Of course I’m biased, but I really can’t see this happening.
As a Bulls fan, I would love to see Bosh in a Bulls uni. I just do not understand the motivation from Toronto’s side to switch Bosh for Stoudamire. It doesn’t clear cap room. It doesn’t really make them better now. It’s just…different.
At least from Phoenix, I see the motivation. Sarver is cheap. Using a potential Bulls trade only for the sake of example (not comparing to the possible Cavs offer that is), he could cut payroll by $2.5 mill this year, saving himself $5mill. And with Gooden’s expiring contract, it makes it easier for him to be below the luxury tax threshold next year.
With the added cost of paying for Porter’s contract, I think Sarver is actually very motivated to deal Stoudamire, but what the hell do I know.
Don’t count Danny Ferry out, he will definitely take his shots here. He’s buds with Steve Kerr, and the Bull’s supposed package is nothing more than junk. (cmon, Tyrus Thomas-are you kidding me?). If Danny can figure out a way to get one of the young front court power players now he’s gonna do it simply to gain control of their contract (and potentially the ability to sign a long term max). Again…….don’t know if it will happen, but I’m quite sure Danny is working hard to make it happen.
Bosh to Chicago? I shudder at the thought of him in the Central and not in the Wine and Gold. I don’t see Kerr letting this happen before going back to his old buddy Danny to see what the Cavs and Suns can do. ESPN reported this morning (on the ticker) that Amare was off the market, but who really knows for sure. I think of all the deal-scenerios that have been floating around for two weeks, Wally, JJ, and a 1st rounder for Amare is the one that makes the most sense to me….but I may be a little biased.

Phoenix should’ve kept Shawn Marion, Boris Diaw, Raja Bell. They also should’ve given Amare the flick earlier and recieved someone like Kendrick Perkins.
Nash and Marion on the fast break was unstoppable. Diaw was a secondary playmaker that made the D’antoni system that much better. Raja Bell was reliable from the 3pt arc and could play defence. With LB coming off the bench, that’s a very quick team that has Kendricks inside presence and defensive efforts.
Think about Stoudemire to Orlando for Lewis! And Amare playing beside Dwight Howard!
Sounds Sweeeeeeet!
