WFNY Rountable: Colt McCoy- Start or Sit?
October 19, 2010Browns Fan Swaps His Life For His Dream
October 20, 2010While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com
Things are happening: “Okay, I’m a little bit excited. I’m not going to lie. This is the first look we got at the Hickson-Varejao starting tandem, and it went very, very well.
This is the best way to get excited about the season: a Moon/Hickson/Varejao frontcourt features three players who will be either faster or more athletic than their counterpart nearly every single night, and Byron Scott wants to exploit that advantage. (If the starting backcourt was Sessions/Williams, the Cavs would have a speed advantage at nearly every position, but I do begrudgingly concede that the real NBA isn’t NBA 2K. Still, I want to see Sessions running point with Mo at the two-guard.)” [Cavs the Blog]

If hipsters liked baseball: “Yeah, Cliff Lee was okay and all tonight. If you’re into that kind of thing. But like, he’s so mainstream now, you know? Like, what a sellout. He doesn’t walk anyone and it’s infuriating. It’s just so far away from the real, gritty Cliff Lee that released all those awesome BB-sides when he was sent back to Kingston, Akron and Buffalo in 2007.” [Old Time Family Baseball]

Oh, how nice. The NFL is selling glossy photos of James’ Harrison’s $75,000 hit [PFT]

That principal-agent dilemma I mentioned yesterday? Yeah. “I suspect Mangini would go with the player he feels gives him the best opportunity to win now. I also suspect the top of the organization may want to see more of the young man though now that he has been thrust into playing. […] Coming off the play of McCoy and what I believe is him getting additional opportunities, Delhomme may ultimately be finished as a starter. Much is going to depend on McCoy and development” [Lane Adkins/The OBR – S/R]

And finally, though it’s already been topped – and though Akron is definitely not Cleveland – check out the story of the Akron-Firestone female kicker who nailed a 43-yard field goal last week. [Prep Rally]

That is outrageous that the NFL is selling photos of that hit, when they found it worthy of fining Harrison 75k for it. No wonder no one plays by the rules, the NFL doesn’t want the players to actually follow the rules. This was just an opportunity for them to make an extra 75k and get more publicity. What a crock of sh*t
I heard Peter King and Ross Tucker talking about the photo this morning on Sirius. Couldn’t believe it.
On Cliff Lee, I was watching some of the game Monday night and couldn’t help but wonder what it would have been like if the Indians had that Cliff Lee in 2007 to go with CC and Fausto. They might have won 110 games and certainly would have won the World Series.
And that made me sad.
@Titus Pullo – I was thinking the same thing about Lee. I almost commented on it in yesterday’s post on him but didn’t. When I think about the near misses of 2007, well, it just hurts.
First of all, the photo sales from the NFL further enforce my believe that the league does not give a polished dog poop about the real effects of head injuries. This is the literal realization of the belief that the NFL is more than happy to profit on the brain damaging play of its employees.
Secondly, to add to Titus’ misery, I was listening to the BS report from last week on the way to work today, and they were talking about the fact that Yankee fans don’t want to boo Cliff Lee too much, because they want to sign him for next year. This would be the embodiment of what’s wrong with baseball. Two Cy Young winners from the same small market team end up unaffordable and signed by the same largest market team just 3 years later…disgusting.
If only good Cliff Lee could have been there in 2007… With the Rangers up 3-1 on the Yankees, I heard today that 14 out of 20 teams with that lead have ended up winning the series. I wonder when the last time the team down 3-1 won, can’t seem to remember it happening in the last three years or anything.
If the NFL really cared about the players, they wouldn’t even think about going to 18 games. So we are left with the obvious conclusion that they don’t care one bit.
Money isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.
@ Mr. Cleveland…you hit the nail on the head. Why doesn’t the NFL just move to a 162 game season like MLB with best of 7 playoff series. Think of the profits!
Listening to Roger Goodell talk about how the players don’t need 4 preseason games to prepare and how the fans want more games makes me think of Caesar. As long as there’s an endless supply of gladiators, why worry?
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5706132 looks like the NFL realized they looked like big hypocrits.
@ Tron…from the ESPN article above…
“…Harrison’s agent, Bill Parise, called the fine “staggering” and said it would be appealed. He emphasized that neither play drew a penalty.
“I’ve talked to James, and he’s very upset,” Parise said. “He’s quite confused about how to play football.”
Maybe Harrison’s confusion is the result of using his head as a battering ram for the past several years. Seriously, this guy treats every game like he’s starring in a prison film.
I went to the cavs game last night and we are farther along then we think. The sixers are terrible but we looked good, and I’m really excited about the Hollins kid, 20 lbs and another year and this kid may be a star. Finnaly I think jj found his jumper, which could be trouble for the opposition. I will be shocked if we are not over 500
’07 seems like an eon ago, but wasn’t Fausto only given a roster spot because Lee hurt his tummy and then came back pitching all funky? If so, then if Lee had won his then-standard 15 games and Fausto would have just had a nice AAA season that year as the rest of the rotation was set. But maybe I’m just misremembering.
i am predicting some good surprises from this young cavs team this year.
i think we and most every NBA analyst out there is forgetting that Mike Brown is not coaching these kids. Byron Scott is the real intangible in the whole rebuiolding equation that I am most interested in. He has proven with the right point guard (Kidd/Paul) he can take a team places fast.
The hard part will be finding a Jason Kidd/Chris Paul.

@13
I am so annoyed by that page. I made a point of going on their message board and asking where the Mike Webster animated GIFs were.
It probably won’t even get posted. It’s easy to cheer the big hit, and then ignore the consequences.
