Chiefs Will Be “Paying Attention” to Jerome Harrison
September 15, 2010Browns’ QB Situation Intentionally Cloudy Mid-Week

De-fense (clap, clap): “What did we learn about the defensive unit? They were good, but they weren’t playing the Colts. They caused two turnovers, and tackled well for the most part. 288 total yards against is a number that is positive and a step in the right direction. Most importantly, the run defense was much, much better. However, most of that was due to one player… T.J. Ward. It’s now official, Ward is the best player the Browns have on that side of the ball. He had eight solo tackles. The next challenge for Ward is getting to the QB.” [Cleveland Hope]

How long until starters are on special teams? “Coming off the dismantling of Miami, the soul warming glow of victory still radiates. Sending the Hurricanes back with another loss lends itself to a cruel sense of satisfaction knowing their misery has only deepened. Oh, how I love it so but that’s not to say there weren’t problems. Generally speaking, the game critiques fall in one of a couple categories like the goofy clock management at the end of the half or the anemic redzone touchdown efficiency. Those pale in comparison, however, to the outright disgust regarding the kickoff and punt coverage units.” [Eleven Warriors]

On LeBron’s recent Q Score: “That’s bad, and I don’t know how LeBron can sleep at night. (Probably under a quilt of ostrich feathers wrapped in fresh silk spun by enslaved silkworms, on an apartment-sized waterbed alternately filled with cognac and Pérignon.) But I’m drawn instead to that last fact — not the cognac-champagne bed filling schedule, but that LeBron is still just the sixth most hated sports figure. Who on Earth do people like less than LeBron right now? And wait, there’s an NBA player on that list? There’s an NBA player more hated than LeBron James?
Five-time NBA champion and former MVP Kobe Bryant.” [Tom Ziller/FanHouse]

“This season isn’t any different for me. I am excited for the Cavaliers season to start. That’s right, I’m anxious for the Cavs to start. There is so much to wonder about this season. Yes, they will go south and win probably close to 30-40 games fewer than the past two seasons, but there is so much hopeless optimism floating around (Browns) I think it’s appropriate to drag it over to the Cavs season.” [Nathan’s Nation]

And finally, the best and the worst of Jake…with diagrams! “There are times when it’s very easy to see the advantages of having a veteran quarterback like Jake Delhomme on the roster. He still has enough gas in the tank to make most of the throws one expects on the NFL, but the main thing you’ll see more consistently than you may have with the youth movement at the position over the last few seasons is the ability a longtime NFL quarterback has to read defenses and call out of formations to gain pre-snap advantages. At the same time, Delhomme’s always been one of those gunslingers, and he shares the feast-or-famine results you get from those types of quarterbacks. With Delhomme, it’s best to keep the Advil right next to the champagne.” [Doug Farrar/The OBR – S/R]

I think it’s a little extreme to say TJ is the best defensive player we have.
And if it is true, it’s real sad.
I think he is maybe top 3. He is always around the ball though, which is good to see. He NEEDS to stay healthy and continue to show progress. If he does, he will be making a push for best defensive player. After one game is a little premature.
Always by the ball… through one game.
“How long until starters are on special teams?”
I read yesterday that Rolle and Homan were already on either the kick or punt coverage team that gave up a TD. Overpursuit on that punt was HORRIBLE. Three players already behind the return man by the time he caught the ball.
@3 – and what we’ve seen from him in the pre season.
Ward could be very good, but let’s remember the game Elam had against the Vikings in week1 last year before annointing him. Elam was everywhere in that game as well (and teams realized it was because he didn’t have any pass responsibilities and started to exploit it).
@4 – I agree that the coverage was bad, but I also have to give credit to the kid returning that punt…he actually played that perfectly…if you notice, he looks down a second before catching the ball and runs up on the ball and times it perfectly to catch it almost full speed and hit the hole…
as for TJ Ward – I think he will be solid for a few years…looks to be a great safety…just needs to steadily improve…which all signs point to the fact that he will…
Ward is supposed to be a solid player from what I’ve heard. But it’s the Browns so we have to be negative.
