Browns Notes: Dave Zastudil to IR, Offensive Line Dinged Up
August 17, 2010While We’re Waiting… Cavalier Uniforms, Woody’s Paper Boy, and Tomlin’s Innings
August 18, 2010Yesterday, we showed you some leaked digital images of a potential jersey change. Today, the Cleveland Cavaliers have officially lifted up the curtain on a slightly different rendition of said jerseys, providing fans with what is merely the latest of several changes that will be effective for the 2010-11 NBA season. The image to the right is the first glance of the slightly altered jersey that Dan Gilbert’s team will don as it begins its first chapter of the post-LeBron James era.
On both uniforms, special details make the new threads distinctive. The Cavaliers DNA statement: “All for One. One for All.” is printed along the back of the inner-collar of the crew neck jersey (image here), and the Cavaliers secondary logo “C-sword” appears on both sides of the shorts. The team will reportedly debut the uniforms when they take the court for the first 2010-11 preseason game on Tuesday, October 5th at 7:00 p.m. vs. the Charlotte Bobcats at Quicken Loans Arena.
The Gilbert-owned Cavs have never been shy with their various colorways when it comes to ensuring that the team shops and merchandise stands have plenty of fresh options for those in the market for some new mesh gear. Over the last two years alone, we’ve seen the traditional whites, blues and occasional wine/gold combo, a slew of Hardwood Classics (early ’80s wine and gold, late 80’s royal blue and orange), and even the CavFanatic selections ranging from electric blue to a combination of the two Hardwood Classic kits.
Given that the Cavaliers recently tweaked a few things on their wine and gold colorway for the upcoming season (deemed the “new expression”), have changed the logo that will grace midcourt at Quicken Loans Arena (no more comic sans!) and have undertaken a project to expand the in-house team shop (perhaps a year too late), the most recent of updates come as no surprise.
At a tweet-up sponsored by the Cavs which featured free food, t-shirts and ticket giveaways, the team unboxed the new uniforms with the help of legends Campy Russell and Austin Carr. The event, which took place in Cleveland’s Barroom, featured house music, a meet-and-greet for fans, several members of the team’s public relations department, and was hosted by the team’s in-game announcer Ahmad Crump.
The “old” jerseys from the last few seasons have long been on discount at the online team shop, likely clearing way for the version that was released today. Now, one can only hope that the CavFanatic version for the upcoming season pays homage to Joe Tait’s sweaters.

A+
Not the best thing I’ve ever seen, but a definite improvement.
I think they’re Awesome.
I just don’t get why they would keep the cursive C-Sword on the shorts. Shouldn’t it match the font on the front of the jersey?
These are terrible. I was all in favor of making the “wine” color deeper and I could live with changing the gold to be yellower. But these are awful. I would have preferred the leaked video game shots with the alternate trim. So disappointed.
I might actually buy one of these. Trouble is, I’m afraid to get one with the number of any player currently on the team because there’s no guarantee who will be here through the year… maybe they’ll offer a Mark Price jersey with this new design? I would buy that.
The wine kit is awful–both colors are far too light. The font is a definite improvement though. I’m not much of a basketball jersey wearer, but if I were to buy one, I’d go with the royal blue and orange. The variety of jerseys the last few years had reached the point of being ridiculous, but all of them are/were superior to these.
There just so… plain.
If they would have gone with the original swordsman logo on the shorts, they’d be perfect.
That, and maybe if they hadn’t gone with the yellow text/numbers on the wine jersey. It doesn’t jive.
Overall, a solid B.
Agree with post #7, very plain. Personally I think theyre a step back from what we had. And have they ditched the dark blue jersey entirely? That was my favorite one. If they wanted a cleaner looking font, why not just go back to the old “CAVS” font/logo across the front of the jersey. That would have been a better option. I liked the wine colored throwbacks we wore last season with the old “CAVS” logo across the front. Oh well.
Uniwatch blog seems to love the new threads.

@7 Probably like the team will be eventhough they’ll supposed to be more run and gun.
Anyways…money , money , money!
Ps Gilbert likes some weird script lettering whether it’s letters to fans or uniforms!
Plain is good; I hate flashy uniforms.
I like them. Not enough to buy one, but I like them nonetheless. Would prefer a deeper wine and the original swordsman (agree Denny), but I much prefer these to the jerseys over the last few years. I say big step forward. B+ for home, B for away.
I like the white jerseys A LOT
I like the block lettering better than the cursive stuff that seemed to be the fad of late.
Not sure about that alleged “wine” color… looks more like a cross between cherry and black cherry Kool-Aid (“Oh Yeah!”)
I agree about the C Sword on the shorts… why keep that? It doesn’t match the block style lettering on the front and back.
I like these a lot. I was a big fan of the old jerseys, but they had a lot going on… checkered piping, side panels, awkward, semi-cursive font. Some call these bland, but I think they’re elegant in their simplicity. I do wish they’d do a navy one, or use navy lettering on the home jerseys.
