Eric Barton: Season in Jeopardy?
July 22, 2010SABR-Toothed Triber: More on Batting Orders—Choo, Santana, Cabrera, & Brantley
July 22, 2010With all of the questions surrounding a possible suspension of Pro Bowl defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, the latest headline attached to the veteran’s name can only help his case with the NFL’s front office. Rogers is now in the good graces of local police after he aided in the arrest of an intoxicated driver late last week.
Cleveland’s Fox 8 reports that Rogers dialed 911 when he noticed a swerving automobile traveling south on Interstate 71 near the Middleburg Heights exit. When talking to the dispatcher, Rogers mentioned that the car not only had a flat tire but was occupied by someone who was either “very sleepy or drunk.”
Later in the phone call, the intoxicated driver apparently noticed the blown tire and decided to pull over to the side of the road. The only issue was that the driver not only had half of his car still in the fast lane of the highway, but he also decided to turn off his lights. Rogers pulled behind the distressed automobile and turned on his flashers to alert oncoming traffic.
“Mr. Rogers positioned himself behind that vehicle and turned his emergency flashers on to notify other drivers that there was an emergency on the road, and I don’t know what would’ve happened had he not done that,” Middleburg Heights Police Chief John Maddox said.
Maddox called Rogers’ actions “life saving” and that he went “above and beyond.” Whether or not both descriptions factor into NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s assessment of the player’s latest altercation with the law remains to be seen. Rogers was recently assigned to a diversion program stemming from an early April incident when he was arrested for having a loaded gun inside of his carry-on luggage at Cleveland Hopkins Airport.
Rogers participated in the recent Organized Team Activities, rehabilitating from last season’s leg injury that forced the defensive lineman to miss the last month of the regular season.

What a great picture. Top notch work Scott
Not sure how many of us would have taken similar actions. No snark here. Kudos to Shaun.
Was Dante Stallworth driving drunk again?
Good work Shaun!
This deserves a big “atta boy” for the big man, and hopefully the league will be less harsh on our best defensive player.
Of course, the drunk driver was Robaire Smith. Very clever, Shaun.
Holy sh**!!! That driver was my girlfriend’s ex! He keyed the crap out of my car a few months ago. Serves him right, a-hole
cant hurt.
I mean really, how bombed do you have to be to leave half your car parked in the highway? Geez.
Good work Shaun. Makes up for your clownish mistake quite a bit imo.
I believe the proper grammer would be “I savez lifes”
You’re welcome.
Shaun seems like a very responsible man. Yeah he toted a gun into an airport. But he does have a concealed weapon license (in Michigan) plus he has taken numerous handgun lessons. I think the airport incident was an accident, and shouldn’t be punished. This story shows that he is responsible and has a good head on his massive shoulders.
Maybe Shaun is a Federal Air Marshall. The “suspension” is to cover his true identity?!?!
Get real Matty. He couldn’t possibly be a Federal Air Marshall, the gun would have cleared security no problem.
He was obviously a Russian spy!
I only read this because of the picture.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say Rogers gets 1 game, max.
[…] finally, audio of the Shaun Rogers 911 call that we discussed yesterday […]
[…] Unfortunately for Lawson, Shaun Rogers was nowhere to be found. […]
