While you were sleeping, the Cavs almost dropped a big lead in the third quarter to the Blazers. Stay tuned for Rick’s recap at 10:00, but in the meantime… “It was a highlight-filled contest with LeBron James and Brandon Roy, the present and future of the NBA, trading haymakers. It featured remarkable runs, questionable defense and even some throwback play from Shaquille O’Neal. Most important for the Cavs (29-10), though, was it was a win — even if it was shaky at times. On long road trips such as they’re on now, there’s no looking sideways at it.” [Windhorst PD]

Even after Braylon’s horrible drop over the weekend, Rex Ryan has got Braylon’s back. Or maybe it is just wishful thinking? “That’s killing him right now, but one of these days he’s going to have an explosion where it’s a three-touchdown day, where he goes up top for three long gains,” Ryan said. “I think it’s coming. It’s right around the corner.” [NY Daily News]

It is the NBA silly season as various trades start getting bandied about. On a potential Bynum for Bosh deal reported by Peter Vescey. “In typical Vecsey fashion, he “reports” on a rumored trade that cannot work due to salary restrictions. Rather than offer a solution, say providing the names of players the Lakers could throw into the deal to make it work, Vecsey just drops the issue. If Toronto is interested in an overpaid center who hates playing defense, then the deal makes sense. Even if the Raptors put Bosh on the market, I’m not sure they’ll get much more than Bynum in return. He’s going to sign with the Knicks or Heat in the off-season.” [Red’s Army]

The worst-kept “secret” in Cleveland sports in years… “According to multiple sources spoken to by theOBR over the past 24 hours, Philadelphia Eagles GM Tom Heckert has agreed in principle to a position in the Cleveland Browns organization. It should be noted, however, that there are still some details to work out, the most notable being exactly what his title will be with the club. It’s expected by those with knowledge of the situation that Heckert will at least carry the title of general manager with the Browns, with an additional title possible. In much the same way that Jeff Ireland has “control” over personnel in Miami, one source put it, Heckert would exert the same level of control here in Cleveland, with Holmgren playing the role of Bill Parcells in the new organizational model.” [The OBR]

Not only did Edwards drop a TD pass in that game, so did Chad Johnson. It was another big day for two of the divas with the highest ego-to-performance differential.
It was amazing to hear so many obnoxious Patriots fans booing their team when they were down 14=0 in the FIRST QUARTER! Man, talk about being spoiled. And what the heck was that little poofy ball that Belichick had on the top of his hat yesterday? Hilarious! My sisters wore hats like that when they were in grade-school.
Brandon Roy, who is 6 months OLDER than LeBron, is the future to his present? I think not. Just shows how even locally we take for granted how young LBJ was when he entered the league and how long he’s going to be around.
“That’s killing him right now, but one of these days he’s going to have an explosion where it’s a three-touchdown day, where he goes up top for three long gains,” Ryan said. “I think it’s coming. It’s right around the corner.”
That’s what we all thought for the entire 2008 season, coach Ryan. I’m sure you’ll soon come to the same conclusion we did.
I couldn’t help but laugh at Braylon it was just hilarious to see that. I guess the Jets fans probably hate him because he went to Michigan too. And you know thats not the way Ryan really feels, he was swearing to himself and maybe out loud.
Pretty sure Windhorst knows how old LeBron is. He was saying that LeBron and Roy were both together the present and the future of the NBA.
Was hoping Windhorst would give mention to the burn Joe Tait put on Daniel Baldwin last night after Shaq pretty much gave him a lap dance.
Joe said, “There are 2 (Baldwin’s) that can act, and 2 that can’t…that was one of them that can’t.” Ouch.
I enjoyed watching Braylon and Chad Johnson (if he holds true to his promise) struggle mightily this weekend.
Could someone with better google-fu than I find the video of Braylon getting hit in the side of the head with a pass from the game a week ago.
That is probably the funniest thing I have seen in a while.
@historycat. This the “catch” you’re referring to?

(Sorry it’s pretty crappy quality)
@#5. Could be. I’ve read/heard so much this year about Roy being the next superstar, the savior of Portland, etc. that the BW quote read similar to me; Roy as the future. I see how it could be read the other way, Lebron/Roy as opposed to Lebron/Kobe, as well.
No, it was one of the not top 10 from last week against the Bengals.
Braylon was wide left and it was a quick pass immediately after the snap.
he never even looked toward Sanchez. He makes one step to fake out his man and the ball hits him right in the side of the head since he wasn’t looking. It was great. They had a view where Braylon is looking straight into the camera so directly downfield, and the ball comes in from the left of the screen and bonks off his melon.
(Funny how he was featured in the “Not top 10” twice this year, though)
That’s hilarious re: Tait and the Baldwins.
Good point on Roy and ‘Bron too.
I think the Jets have a good shot to upset the Chargers this weekend. They have a lot of the same strengths as (and are actually stronger than in some places) the Ravens who beat the Chargers early this season.
windhorst did talk about the tate comment on his twitter page…fwiw.
