Fun Was Had By All – Except The Owners
August 7, 2009Breaking News: Carl Pavano Traded to Minnesota
August 7, 2009Yesterday was not the best day to be a Browns fan, though there is no doubt that we have seen a lot worse.
Midway through practice, veteran offensive lineman Rex Hadnot sustained an injury to his left knee. Steve King of The OBR described it as a “blow out,” but one that apparently happened when rookie linebacker David Veikune unintentionally rolled on top of of Hadnot’s leg.
The Browns will not disclose the severity of the injury. Until then, we can only speculate that Hadnot will miss some time. Other players impacted by the injury will be Ryan Tucker and Floyd Womack who appear to be in a battle for the right guard slot next to John St. Clair at right tackle. Though not exciting free agents, the additions of Womack, St. Clair and George Foster are looking to be that much more important for overall depth.
There has also been some recent chatter that Hank Fraley could slide over to the right guard spot and split time with Womack while St. Clair enters a job share with Tucker. When Fraley was with the Philadelphia Eagles, he logged a considerable amount of snaps as a guard so it would not be as if he was learning a new position. Couple this with the fascination with Eric Mangini’s fascination with flexible offensive linemen and Fraley appears to be that much closer to having a key spot on the 2009 Cleveland Browns.
One guy who does not, however, is rookie defensive back Don Carey as he was waived by the team yesterday afternoon. Carey has spent all of minicamp nursing an injured shoulder, though there has been no disclosure of how the injury occurred. As the team signed Akron product Brandon Anderson (DB), they put the injured Carey on waivers.
There is still a chance that the rookie Carey can remain with the team if he clears and is placed on IR for the remainder of 2009. Though the secondary is not a strength of the Browns, Carey was far enough down on the depth chart that the team is able to take a risk in losing him via waiver. Of course, the injury could also be serious enough that the team has just decided to cut ties. Only time will tell.

Well that didnt take long… SNAKE BITTEN!!!!
dang, I liked Rexy.
Sucks, but, like he said, we’ve seen worse….. and it happens every single year! To be completely honest, I expected SOMETHING to happen like this, I’m just surprised it wasn’t a more key player. BTW… I’m knocking on every piece of wood around me at the moment. I hate to even type what I’m typing for fear of a jinx, but, oh well.
“undisclosed injury”.
@3 – I was actually thinking the same thing.
“thanks isis”
Injuries happen…..it’s football. They only way you can try and prevent injuries in camp is to have a fluff camp. Then you just get your tail beat in the regular season.
@ Isis – you may as well get used to injuries being undisclosed this year.
“conspiracy”
“using quotation marks is the new cool thing”
I think we should be the Cleveland Ninjas.
