The other side of the Josh Smith trade: “As a Hawks fan, would I be upset if the Hawks traded Josh Smith? Well, that depends. I like Josh, as a person and as a player, and I’m glad that he’s on my favorite team. But if trading Josh could make the Hawks a better team, then I understand the need to move him. I really don’t care whether or not they trade him, I just care about who or what they would trade him for. That said, to me it’s going to be tough to find anything resembling equal value for a 23-year-old who averaged 15.6 and 7.2 last season and is under a very reasonable contract for the next five years. More importantly, from what I understand, the Hawks really like Josh Smith.” [Lang Whitaker/SLAMOnline]

About darn time: “I can tell the Tribe’s Eric Wedge is as frustrated with his players as are many of the fans. While I normally don’t think it’s wise for a manager to call out his players individually in the media, it’s obvious that Wedge is tired to talking to them behind closed doors with no results — so he delivering the same message in the media.” [Terry Pluto/Plain Dealer]

Give ’em the heater, Ricky: “The evening is a celebration of the 20th year anniversary of Major League, and honestly, it’s one of the better promotions that any baseball team has pulled off in a while. Of course, the bad news is that it’s made all that much better by the fact that the team stinks — if they were decent, this would just be a blip in the road of a championship season.” [Will Brinson/Mouthpiece Sports]

Movin’ on up… “Former Buckeye quarterback Todd Boeckman, who was an All-Big Ten pick in 2007 before losing his job to Terrelle Pryor during last season, is getting a shot in the NFL. He has signed as a free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to his Beachwood-based agent, Neil Cornrich. Boeckman earlier had a tryout with Cincinnati but didn’t sign with the Bengals.” [Doug Lesmerises/Plain Dealer]

Ah, so these are what you consider tradeable assets: “Amar’e Stoudemire has been linked to more rumors than it’s possible to remember, but here’s a new one you probably haven’t heard before: Marc Spears of the Boston Globe cites an unnamed NBA executive who claims the Suns and Timberwolves are talking about swapping Stoudemire for Al Jefferson and the No. 6 pick.” [Matt Watson/NBA FanHouse]

Amare for Al Jefferson and the No. 6 pick: See, that’s a deal that could actually happen… unlike the pipe dreams I’ve seen posted in which we receive somebody’s franchise player for the pu pu platter of expiring contracts and bench flotsam.
@1 you are kidding right. Amar has been hurt the last two years and has had major knee and eye issues. Jefferson is one of the best low post players in the league and the SUNS want a pick?? I guess your right the Shaq for a salary cut is a pipe dream. This trade rumor is insane.
Uh, Jefferson is coming a major injury as well. Still, the trade doesn’t make sense for the Wolves, especially since Al is signed to a multiyear deal while Amare is in the 2010 free agent class.
@3 my bad I forgot about AJ’s knee. Still, AJ is three years younger, cheaper, and is direct evidence to the TWolves fans that they didnt give away Garnett for peanuts. I don’t see how this rumor is anymore credible or possible than most of the Cavs rumors we have discussed here.
Al Jefferson and the sixth pick? That’s a steal just for Al Jefferson.
Actually, thats horrendous on Minnesota’s part. There’s no way Stoudemire re-signs to the Wolves. You can pretty much guarantee Amar’e is going to sign with the Knicks at that point.
this is a perfect example of why some teams are perpetually bad. whats the point of making this trade if youre Minny? maybe the cavs can get in on this insanity! wallace + hickson + sasha?! (i wish)
Minnesota has adamantly denied that AJ is on the block. And the trade does not make sense financially give the AJ is signed to a long term contract. Now if McHale was still running the show then it might not be a bogus rumor.
even if they wanted to, hawks can’t trade josh smith until august at the very earliest.
these rumors are the worst.
