With Johnny Manziel, Things Will Be Different. Right?
May 19, 2014What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been: How the United States Men’s National Team Punched Their Ticket to Brazil
May 19, 2014Does the T stand for “tease?” Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine recently told Cleveland media that Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon will participate in organized team activities (OTAs) this week as the team awaits word from the NFL regarding the player’s looming suspension. Northeast Ohio Media Group’s Mary Kay Cabot reports that “the expectation” is for Gordon to be hauling in passes from both Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel as the league continues to deliberate on—well, who knows what.
Gordon was recently the subject of a report from ESPN’s Outside the Lines which said the receiver tested positive for marijuana. It is believed that Gordon is in Stage 3 of the NFL’s drug policy and another test could very well make him unavailable for all of 2014. Gordon’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus is in the process of appealing the suspension. If Gordon is suspended indefinitely, he would have to apply for re-instatement with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The NFL’s leading recevier in 2013, Gordon was suspended for two games for what was reported to be codeine.
In the wake of the report, the Browns have added veteran wide receviers Miles Austin and Earl Bennett in addition to several undrafted free agents.
“We have to build this team so that no one player drives the ship,” Pettine said. “That we can be insulated losing players for extended periods of time potentially is part of the game. Successful franchises are the ones that have enough depth built and enough options to account for it.”

Thanks! I think I did a good job of hiding my frustration when the doctor said “It’s a girl!” so hopefully I’m ahead of the curve.

I can’t imagine that it’s about being consumed in a legal state, since employers can do what they want. But the secondhand aspect makes more sense (hey, they offered, but I specifically said no because I knew I couldn’t!).
Thanks! And yes it is, considering they’re the best team in town right now. Funny how the best team is always the one not playing…
Or, he was in a place where he didn’t even know it was happening (say a house-party or a bar, etc) and promptly left.
That would be most comforting (look, Josh was smart! not stupid!), though I would think that seems too hopeful.
He won’t let you down
he’s 2
Just like JFF. Coincidence?

Haha, great Incredibles pull there.
Interesting to see if it is in the rules. Like when my wife told my 5
yo not to eat food on the couch anymore, and he moved over to the chair
So I should get 2 toddler Gilbert and Manziel jerseys to replace the Richardson and Weeden ones? I thought for sure the latter would be around for at least a few years until the boys (3 and 5) grew out of them.
I’m sure it’s not in the rules, but I can imagine the NFL reading the writing on the wall w/r/t marijuana and not wanting to be caught on the wrong side of the social acceptance “norm.” (As the question was posed last week here, does the NFL want to be criticized for its stance when people look back 10 years from now?) Personally, I think that would be foolish, but I can see the NFL thinking it to be a quandry, and if they do, there’s going to have to be a test subject at some point.
HYPOTHETICAL:
so if Gordon gets off on a technicality, will all the sports writers across the nation who dissed Ray Farmer’s draft have to go back and retroactively award him an A+ because he didn’t draft a #1 WR because he knew he didn’t need one?
I don’t know the actual rules of the collective bargaining agreement, but just because there is a suspension it does not mean there has to be an official acknowledgement from the NFL. If I were the players I would have negotiated keeping a positive drug test from being announced until internal appeals processes were exhausted.
I can’t tell… fighting a serious glaucoma infection today.
keep the Richardson and Weeden ones and be ready with the stitching of a new name on the back.
in general, I have different feelings about the legalization, but considering the addictive pain-killers the NFL gives out like candy, I understand the societal backlash on this one. regardless, it’s a rule and Gordon is stupid (even if just hanging out with guys smoking — he put a likely $40 or so million guaranteed on the line here).
I believe they will write:
So, Farmer got saved by Gordon being there for him this fall, but, it’s Cleveland, so something else will happen to the team. The grade stands.
Haha that made my day.
My new Josh Gordon jersey just arrived! 😀
maybe i could just pull off the names…should should just invest in some Matt Cleveland Jerseys….
I think when I get my boys their next set of jerseys, I am going to get their baseball numbers and just put “NorthCoast” on the back.
