May 15, 2014He won’t ever be confused for Kevin Durant, but the Cleveland Indians have a new No. 36 after officially calling up hard-hitting first baseman Jesus Aguilar from Columbus. The 23-year-old Aguilar was hitting .298 (.914 OPS) for the Clippers, adding eight doubles, seven home runs, and 19 runs batted in through 37 games.
The 6-foot-3-inch, 250-pound Aguilar will take the 40-man roster spot of Nyjer Morgan who injured his right knee in the sixth inning of Wednesday night’s win over the Blue Jays.
Hope is that Aguilar (who hit .346 against left-handed pitching in Columbus) will help cure the Indians’ year-long issues against southpaws. He will make his debut on Thursday night, batting sixth as the team’s designated hitter.

Very excited to see the young man play, even if it will only be for a short time.
Watch out Swish
You said it man…
Why would he be confused for Kevin Durant?
yeah, wondering if this might be a little audition for Pine Time for Nick.
Probably not, but a man can dream. Swish is just so hard to watch right now.
Wow, kinda early for a 40-man roster shakeup. Not that it’s unwarranted, though. Aguilar has come a long way in the last 14 months. He was an RBI machine in Akron last season, but it was winter ball and his first 6 weeks in Columbus that really put him on the map. On the other hand, spring training was a disaster. Still, he’s one of the more exciting prospects to come up to Cleveland in awhile. That’s mostly because he’s a double rarity in the system–a corner bat with right-handed power. I really, really hope he succeeds because he could plug a lot of holes in the Tribe’s lineup for the next 5 years or so. It certainly beats playing the free agent game (see Swisher, Nick and Bourn, Michael).
I wonder if he goes straight back to Columbus when Giambi comes off the DL next week?
Nobody —-s with the Jesus!
They must be hoping for a miracle
it wont be for a short time. Hes going to be the starter at 1b or DH for the rest of the season. unless he just isnt hitting of course.
I don’t think it is much of a shakeup, more of a ‘call a guy up for a few games until Kipnis or one of the other hurt dudes gets better’
i hope they give him a lot of time at the expense of swisher.
That would be pretty unlikely given it’s his first major league callup, although we’re likely to see him called up more than once this season.
Desperation but hey their best FA signing Murphy had 5 hits last night! Suck that Nelson Cruz.
I’ve been advocating for him as the last spot on the bench for a while, but I’m not seeing how he’s going to keep his spot when everyone is healthy.
Not happening. This team needs Swisher to hit if they’re going anywhere. If Swisher doesn’t hit, they don’t have a 1B candidate who possibly could make a difference. Sink or swim with the bro.
Was a lede based on body type. They couldn’t be more opposite.
