Alex Mack wants to play for a passionate fan base, visits Jacksonville
April 6, 2014Browns reportedly agree to terms with Nate Burleson
April 6, 2014The drama permeating from the Cleveland Cavaliers’ locker room has officially transcended over to Berea. All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving has shot back at Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon for comments the NFL receiving yards leader made about the Wine and Gold. From Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal:
“Guys like Josh Gordon need to stay in his sport and mind his own business. Does he still play for the Browns? I’ll continue to root for the Browns, but in terms of this stuff here, what goes on in this locker room, he needs to stay out of it.”
Earlier this week, Gordon, speaking in an ESPN interview, said “I talked about it with Dion [Waiters]. He’s my neighbor in my building so we hang out all the time. I’m aware of the rift in the locker room. That’s just alpha males and supreme athletes trying to share the spotlight.”
In a move that isn’t likely to do much for his Q Score amongst Cleveland fans, the receiver already responded to Irving’s declaration, doing so via Instagram.
In his attempt to stay out of the middle of a war of words between two of Cleveland’s most popular athletes, Waiters said that “[Gordon] can’t put words in my mouth. That’s his opinion. That’s what he thinks. I can’t stop a man from saying that. That’s what he thinks.”
While Irving’s “does he still play” comment is a bit empty given Gordon’s recent barrage of national media attention, the message is very clear: Gordon should be staying in his lane. As if Cleveland’s trench of sports-related issues wasn’t deep enough…
Silver lining: At least Kyrie Irving roots for the Browns.

Trade Irving now. Get some value. Dudes gone anyway.
Glad the Indians are at least professional.
Man, imagine how good the Cavs would be if Irving cared about playing defense as much as his image on social media.
OK
No
Just when it seems like Cleveland sports can’t get any more ridiculous. How about a moratorium on any Cleveland athlete talking to the media or using social media until one of these teams actually accomplishes something meaningful? Might mean years of silence at this point, but I’m not entirely against that idea.
Let’s see, statistically the best at his position in the NFL, or a locker room cancer and malingerer with no impact on the court for his team. Which opinion would I value?
Well, when I said I wouldn’t want Josh Gordon learning anything from Braylon Edwards, I probably should have thrown one or two caveats in there….
Social media killed the moratorium star, I’m afraid.
Josh, I thought we’d settled this.
You’re a WR for the Cleveland Browns.
The draft does not concern you.
The Cavs do not concern you.
Know
Your
Role.
Catch passes, and…

Hey – It’s on in the south stairway, right after homeroom!
Just the flotsam and jetsam of two losing orgs with little veteran leadership. Where your best players, the ones fans care most about, have the maturity of a couple of toddlers in the sandbox. Wish they were half as embarrassed for themselves as I am for them.
So you weight the value of a person’s opinion based on sports statistics? Also, Kyrie has no impact on the court?
This seems right.
this is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read. And sometimes I still look at ESPN.
you want Gordon to punch one of Kyrie’s people?
They seem to play better without Kyrie, Yes, I think when you play at the top level in your profession you have more room to talk, than someone who was nominated as a superstar without doing much except walking around holding his knee during crunch time every year. But then again basketball is all about strutting an preening like peacock.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
That is still terrible logic.
“without doing much except walking around holding his knee during crunch time every year”
This is absurd.
Yeah he’s been a real iron man LOL.
As usual, Dion is the cool headed voice of reason 🙂 Gotta love Cleveland sports.
Stick to your Indians support and leave the Cavaliers alone!

LoL you knew Waiters had to be involved yet it’s Irving taking all the heat. This is the LeBron days all over again at least Kyrie’s mom isn’t around.
Unnecessary commenting from Gordon, but the interesting thing is, looking at it by itself, I don’t think his comment is all that inflammatory. He seems to apply the blame equally to Kyrie and Dion, so hardly a rip on Irving.
That said, last year, I made a comment on here about liking the fact that Gordon was keeping to himself and not talking publicly. Sorry to see that era end…
This was my take as well. Gordon is only saying what media and fans say all the time.
The problem is Gordon isn’t “supposed” to say these things because of his position in the “BROTHERHOOD OF PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES!”
I understand Kyrie’s frustration, but Gordon wasn’t way out there in his comments.

Easy, Shamrock. only Windhorst knows what really happened, and he’s gonna spill the beans soon! or maybe not
Gordon named names – that’s the issue. He explicitly said that Waiters told him something about the Cavs and Kyrie. I think it would be fine for him to have said what he did, but only if he kept the fact that he spoke directly with Waiters out of it.
Seems very middle-schoolish.
