Indians (once again) among best values in MLB
April 1, 2014Cavs front office comes in 27th in ESPN’s #FrontOfficeRank
April 1, 2014Well this is a pleasant surprise: Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson is being pursued “aggressively” by the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns, per NBC Washington, are joined by the San Francisco 49ers as teams who covet the recently released three-time Pro Bowler. As Mike Florio reports, the timing of this news is interesting given that Jackson is reportedly nearing a deal with Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan’s former team, the Washington Redskins.
The Eagles were attempting to trade Jackson for a good portion of the offseason before releasing him outright following reports that the wide receiver had strong ties to Los Angeles-based gang members. Immediately following the news, a league source told ESPN that at least nine teams reached out to Jackson’s agent, Joel Segal—one of which, we now are led to believe are the one-time conservative Browns. This is the same team that traded a wide receiver days after he punched a friend of LeBron James and wanted to release another wide receiver as a means to “send a message” to the rest of the roster.
Cleveland has been linked to several wideouts during the course of the offseason as they continue to seek out an upgrade over Greg Little. While Ray Farmer and his team may not end up inking Jackson to a deal, one thing is apparent: This ain’t your father’s Browns.

April Fool’s
Fools’*
Cleveland is so thirsty for this signing. Everyone from Cabot to Ruiter, STO to WFNY. All repeating the same report out of Washington. Calm down everyone. Until he lands in Cleveland, talks face to face with Ray Farmer, there is no story and he will probably end up in Washington.
His agents are using these “rumors” to get more money.

DJax’s CRIPtonite shall stay away from CLE. I could see him in NC. That is the midpoint along the drug corridor from FLA to NY
April Fools?
I am aggressively meh on this idea. Explosive but fragile player. I would MUCH rather have Watkins and Gordon as my 1-2 punch at WR. But Jackson is exciting.
“Aggressively pursuing” sounds like texted words from an agent who excused himself from dinner with Dan Snyder and located the smart phone planted for him in the inside of the loo tank in the 4-star restaurant. Re-entering the dining room he says to the coach, “Do you mind if I speak to Mr. Snyder in our common language?” No, go right ahead. “What DeSean really wants,” says the agent, “is more money.”
We already have fast and short WRs (Hawkins and Benjamin) who don’t cost 10M in cap and don’t do the following. Pass.
1, 2, 3, 4. (plus the featured photo of this post.)
Okay.. let’s go ahead and hope this never happens. Our best WR is one friday night kegger away from an indefinite suspension from the league. Jackson is toxic – the opposite of the veteran/mentor we should be trying to sign to bring along our young receivers.

i love her.
NC? what do you know about the south?
think about it though – you could have gordon and Djax, and STILL get a Mack or a QB or an OL with that #4. I’m all in on this signing, if possible.
and the rumble of the train gets louder and louder….
Sounds great on paper. But then I consider his size, fragile nature, attitude, and the cost he’d require to bring in, and I like the thought of a big (and rookie contract earning) draft pick at WR instead. We can even go Mack or Robinson instead at 4 (though I think we would be foolish to pass on Watkins at that spot if he is there), due to the depth of quality receivers available in the draft.
I think of all those risks and costs too. Then, I remember what he brings and forget about them:

also, he is pretty dang durable for a 180lb WR. he missed 5 games in ’12, but has played in at least 14 games every other year (6yrs in NFL).
I think we need to do our homework big-time, but he’s the 2nd best playmaker in the NFL at WR to Harvin who has way bigger injury concerns. note: that is biggest playmaker, not best WR which is Calvin (followed by AJ and then a fight for 4th between Gordon and others).
