An unforgettable Cleveland Connection: While We’re Waiting

February 19, 2018Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love may be recovering from a broken hand he suffered January 30, but after being selected as an All-Star, the veteran decided to head out West and take part in the weekend’s off-the-court activities in Los Angeles, while watching the All-Star Game itself on the sidelines. During All-Star media day on Saturday, the forward was able to voice his opinion of the Cavs’ chaotic trade deadline for the first time. He made his true feelings heard, agreeing the wine and gold needed to blow up the roster and gave his approval of the moves general manager Koby Altman and owner Dan Gilbert made to improve the team, per cleveland.com’s Joe Vardon.
“Yeah, I think that was pretty apparent,” Love said of the three trades that sent six Cavs out of town and brought four new faces to the Land.
“It might not have been a bad thing to get some fresh faces in there and guys from situations where they really wanted to win,” Love said. “I think first and foremost, seeing those (new) guys in Atlanta, they didn’t play, but they got there right after the trade and they just said they want to win. You can tell when somebody says it, you can tell when somebody means it. They really meant it and it felt good to have that there.”
The quote was complimenting the newest Cavs, but there was some obvious shade to those who had departed. Love, of course, had been called out by some of those former teammates for missing a game due to injury in a heated team meeting among other things.
The wine and gold not only got younger following the trades, but they became more athletic, lengthy, and seem to have a deeper team in terms of true talent. Prior to the All-Star break, the new-look wine and gold were able to play two games together. To say that they look much better and more energized would be an understatement. Keep in mind, those two games happened with little practice time together and without an All-Star forward (center?).
Love won’t have the opportunity to actually play with his new teammates until he fully recovers from his hand injury in a few weeks, but it’s obvious he loves the new-look Cavs and can’t wait to get back on the court. They already look much improved, just wait until they gain more chemistry and get Love back. Watch out, Eastern Conference (and the rest of the NBA).
