November 24, 2017Slay the Wolverines: Ohio State – Michigan Preview
November 24, 2017The last Saturday of November isn’t just another Saturday, it’s a day that features not only the best rivalry in college football, but arguably the best rivalry in sport as a whole. When the Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Michigan Wolverines in the final regular season game every year, it doesn’t matter what the records are, it’s most likely going to be a close a game. While the scarlet and gray have dominated the series lately, Michigan has done so at times as well. While it may be different due to the fact that I graduated from the Ohio State University, the morning of The Game feels like Christmas morning.
In order to get both Ohio State and Michigan fans, and even sports fans in general, ready for the game, the Buckeyes’ video and graphic team has somehow outdone themselves once again with their latest hype trailer. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, this one is the most epic one yet.
The video starts with plenty of highlights from season’s past. Whether it’s Woody Hayes or Jim Tressel, the trailer does a great job in showing the history of the rivalry. But first things first, it shows you the scuffles and fights that have happened prior to the game, whether it’s on the field or when the teams are being led out onto the field.
“This is the real one. This is the greatest rivalry in all of sport. Not college football—all of sport,” head coach Urban Meyer echoes to his team. “Chapter 12 is about to be ready when that foot sinks into the ball at noon against That Team Up North, you shall be ready.”
While featuring plenty of highlights from games in the past, all of which are good plays for the Buckeyes, the video concludes by showing Curtis Samuel’s game-winning touchdown in The Shoe in 2016, much like you could have anticipated.
Ohio State is almost a two-touchdown favorite at many sports books, but given the rivalry and the fact that The Game is at Michigan, nothing is guaranteed for the Buckeyes. With that said, there is plenty on the line—including a possible spot in the Final Four—for the scarlet and gray. For the Wolverines, it’s basically their Super Bowl, especially with how Ohio State has dominated the rivalry over the decade-and-a-half.
Although you’re probably ready to run through a wall after watching the video, keep all your emotions bottled in until Saturday afternoon. Ohio State and Michigan are expected to kickoff at 12 p.m. ET in Ann Arbor.
