Taking the Party at Napoli’s to Texas
June 26, 2017All out of sports: While We’re Waiting
June 27, 2017The Cleveland Indians were swept by the Minnesota Twins over the weekend and trailed the Texas Rangers 9-2 in the top of the fourth inning on Monday. Ho hum. Another Tribe loss at home. But, wait, the Indians made an incredible comeback Monday night. Trailing by seven, they scored 13 unanswered runs to not only complete the comeback, but blowout the Rangers, 15-9.

Did you turn off your television? Do you just wanted to relive the highlights again? WFNY has you covered. Let’s take a look at what transpired at Progressive Field Monday night:
With Carlos Carrasco allowing four runs in the opening inning, the bottom part of the inning had a chance to make their mark. The Indians had bases loaded with no outs, but somehow only came managed to score one run, which came on a Carlos Santana fielder’s choice. Little did we know, it would be the first of many runs for the home team.
After getting activated off the disabled list prior to the game, Brandon Guyer proved just how much he means to the offense, especially against left-handed pitchers. Although the Rangers scored another three runs to take a 7-1 lead, the right fielder had a RBI single of his own.
Trailing 9-2, the Indians seemed all but out of it. Somehow, following this RBI groundout by Francisco Lindor, it was the first of 13 unanswered runs to cap off the incredible comeback and secure the win for Cleveland.
Down six, Lonnie Chisenhall, who should be an All-Star, still hustled his way down the first base line, bringing in the team’s fourth run of the game on an infield single with bases loaded.
It may not have been a hit, but Roberto Perez managed to bring in one of the 15 runs with baseball’s most exciting play- a bases loaded walk.
If there’s ever anything you doubt about Bradley Zimmer, it should never be his speed or quickness. This time, he beat out what could have been a double play ball to allow the Indians to score on yet another opportunity with bases loaded.
Francisco Lindor has been in a quite bit of a funk over the last few weeks, but Monday night may have been his best shot at turning it around. With that big grin, he cut the deficit to just three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Much like Lindor, Carlos Santana has also struggled mightily. The problem with Santana is that he has struggled all season. Maybe, just maybe, this is the type of game that will turn his season around. If so, he would be an awesome addition to the lineup going forward.
Let’s be honest: Is there anything Chisenhall can’t do at this point? Although the Indians ended up winning the game by six, Chisenhall’s 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Indians the lead for good. That is what the old-school announcers would call a game-winning RBI.
With the stadium erupting, Lindor legged out an infield single to put the team up two.
Jason Kipnis felt left out and wanted to join the party, so he did so by hitting the ball into the outfield and getting a run home on a sac fly.
In case you wanted to see even more video clips from that awesome comeback, here’s RBI doubles from Santana, Perez, and Zimmer in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap the scoring for the Indians. They were mainly just icing on the cake.
Every starting member of the Indians reached base at least twice. All but Jason Kipnis had at least two hits. Six of the nine starters reached base safely three times. For the season, Chisenhall, Zimmer, J-Ram, and Encarnacion all have an on base percentage above .370.
If tonight taught us anything, it’s to never count the Indians out of it, no matter who their opponent is. Luckily, Cleveland was able to keep intact one of their impressive records of not having gone on a four-game losing streak since July 23-28, 2015.
Also, in case Rangers’ Twitter didn’t see the end of the game, be sure to check out the above highlights as well. Seeing as though your Twitter went dark around the time the Indians began coming back. It’s OK to feel the need to stay away from all social media after blowing a lead like that.

They aren’t even halfway through the season yet, but game No. 75, when the Indians turned a 7-run deficit into a 6-run lead may go down as the turning point in their season.

I fortunately had tuned in at 9-3 and thought, “Eh, I’ll keep this on to have in the background,” which is never a bad thing with Hammy calling a game. Glad I did. This was fun. We keep saying, maybe this is the one that acts as that pivotal point of the season and propels the team where it’s supposed to go. Hopefully, it’s true this time, granted the Rangers are a .500 team right now.
So DFW born and bred Mrs jpf courageously wore her Indians gear save a pair of Rangers shoes. Since I bought her the shoes, not much I could say about that. At 7-1 I turned to her and said, “we can leave anytime you’re ready”. The glare of death response let me know I was there for the duration.
Tips for killing time while being annihilated at Progressive Field:
– Pizza at Dante’s Sec 128 is pretty good. I recommend the Inferno. You won’t be bothered waiting in line for 15 minutes, and TV’s are right there so you can get a good read on pitch movement. Or in the case of the two starters last night, lack there of. They sell tall cans of All Day IPA, which you can sip while waiting and they give you a nice pizza box for each pizza eliminating the need for a Chinese acrobatic performance to return to your seats with food for more than 1 person.
– Smoke breaks are great at the Jake, easy in and out. Don’t smoke? Then just head to the Home Run porch and wait for that once in a lifetimer HR hit right to you. Don’t throw it back, no matter what that group of drunk twentysomething’s tell you, they will escort you out.
– After multiple Tomlin starts, I’ve decided White Rajah is demon’s mead. Tribel Red is pretty good though and was the choice last night. Sec 164 Brew Kettle.
– Send snarky twitter replies to Bode knowing he’s surrounded by millions of faux Texas fans.
That should get you back to your seats around 9-2, just in time to watch an incredible comeback, and rain be damned, you won’t want to leave.
The streak is broken!
