Crushing the Cleveland Browns for Columbus news: While We’re Waiting
December 9, 2016Ohio State’s Pat Elflein named the best center in college football
December 9, 2016Heading into the season opener, Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III gave the Dawg Pound plenty of hope after he was named the starting quarterback to begin the season: Could he be the franchise quarterback? Could RG3 make this team successful? All those high hopes seemed to fall (and fall hard) when the gunslinger suffered a fracture in his left shoulder, which placed him on the injured reserve.
Set to make his return and start behind center in Week 14’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, in his second start as a Brown, Griffin still has plenty to prove. Not only does he have another chance to prove to the fans that he could possibly be the guy, but RG3 can prove to Jackson and the rest of the coaching staff that he can be the franchise quarterback the team seems to have been searching for since 1999.
Here’s what Jackson told cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot about Griffin still having plenty to prove:
“The fact that we’re putting him out there says that,” said Jackson. “I want to know more. I’ve only seen him really play for not even a full game. The more information, the more time I get an opportunity to evaluate him, the better it’s going to be. I will say it again, I am not expecting for everything to go perfect. It’s not. I don’t want to put that kind of pressure on anybody. It’s his second game in a little over maybe two years so hopefully it’ll go right, but if it doesn’t that’s OK, too. We have to go get him to play and hopefully play well, but we all understand the situation that he’s in. I think he is up to the challenge.”
So, not only is the starting job for the rest of the season on the line, but also even longer than that? Given the fact that Griffin has only gotten less than a game to show off his skills, Jackson believes that the quarterback deserves a better chance in order to make things happen.
“I don’t know that for sure (if four games is enough), but it’ll definitely provide information. It’ll provide more than what we have now. The more you know, the better you’re equipped to make decisions. … It’s important (to evaluate him) but it’s important that he’s able to go out there and play well. What I’ve seen in practice is that he’s up to the challenge so we will put him out there and let him have at it.”
With two potential top-10 picks in the upcoming draft, re-signing RG3 and having him be the franchise quarterback seems like a long shot, but Jackson and company are opening every possible door they can this season and seeing exactly what they have. Who can blame them, right?
How do you as a fan feel? Do you think RG3 deserves another chance? Would you take him as the potential franchise quarterback going forward?

Only 4 more games!
Going into the season, my opinion had been I want him to either be great or awful. Worst thing that could happen to a QB needy team would have been 5-6 wins. We are in a position to grab the best QB, or a cornerstone defensive player with the first pick. One win can change all of that.
I hope he plays well enough to justify keeping him for one more year. I really don’t want to waste an important pick on a QB this year. (But if they do, it should be Trubisky – but not a spot higher than he’s actually worth.)

why not? I have.
Considering how well Hue prepared Flacco & Dalton I admit I’m curious to see what he can do with RG3 (While hopeful my expectations are low).
Agree. Just read Kiper & McShay draft analysis and they indicate that this is a defensive draft. No QB except Trubisky is a 1st rounder, and he is not a top pick. Let’s get 2 best defensive players, build our infrastructure and then look for a QB.
This.
If RG3 shows enough of a spark to allow us not to overreach for a QB, I’d call that a win. Even if we take Trubisky it would be nice next year to have someone to put out there and get killed before we’re forced to put him out there to get killed.
