November 18, 2016A section of Brecksville Rd. in Independence, Ohio will be renamed Cavaliers Way on Monday, celebrating the Cleveland Cavaliers’ NBA Championship. Independence, home of the Cavaliers’ pristine training facility, will host a ceremony to dedicate and unveil two new Cavaliers Way street signs, one of which will be placed at the intersection of Brecksville Rd. and Rockside Rd., the city’s most business-populated area, just south of Cleveland Clinic Courts.
Independence mayor Anthony L. Togliatti will present Cavaliers CEO Len Komoroski and General Manager David Griffin with the Key to the City, a ceremony that will also feature a host of Ohio politicians—Congressman David Joyce, Senator Tom Patton, Senete-Elect Matt Dolan, and House Representative Marlene Anielski—the Cavaliers Scream Team, and a handful of Cavaliers Girls.
Cleveland Clinic Courts, a 50,000-square foot, state of the art facility, opened its doors in 2007, and is set back roughly a quarter mile off of Brecksville Road in Independence. It has been dubbed the “home away from home” for the Cavaliers, featuring a 14,000-square foot parking facility, 17,000-square foot practice courts, a 4,000-square foot weight room, and 4,000 square feet dedicated to training and hydrotherapy. Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert reportedly spent $25 million on the project, partnering with the Cleveland Clinic.
The ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m. and will feature brief comments by Togliatti prior to the unveiling.
