Browns Film Room: Big plays by Bengals doom Browns defense
October 27, 2016With no DH, will Carlos Santana play left field in Chicago?
October 28, 2016What’s up, guys? I know, you’re probably confused as to why I’m away from my headline, nighttime, Ohio State beat and sometimes a column-or-two desk duties, but here I am. Considering this is my first While We’re Waiting, I just wanted to introduce myself.
Hi, I’m Josh Poloha, pronounced like Aloha but with a P—no, I’m not Hawaiian. While I’ve been known to write plenty of heavily edited, vanilla headlines, I’ve been a contributor here at WFNY for almost two years (wow, time flies). When I first joined the team, I had no idea what I was in for. To say that the rest of the writers here at WFNY have exceeded my expectations — which were high to begin with — would be an understatement and I couldn’t be happier to be part of this team.
Let’s get this going before Craig gets mad at me for ruining Friday’s WWW forever.
I know, the Cleveland Indians are set to play in Game 3 of the World Series Friday night in Chicago with the series tied, 1-1, but, like sports talk radio does throughout much of the season, I’m going to stay away from talking about the Indians or the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have begun their quest to back-to-back championships. Instead, I want to focus on the Browns. Just kidding. But seriously, I’m going to try my best to not talk about sports as much as I can, especially given the fact that there was not a World Series game Thursday night and we were stuck with having to watch an NFL game that wasn’t close and NBA games that didn’t include the Cavs.
Alright, so a little throwback to High School Josh. High School Josh was absolutely obsessed with Taylor Swift. Whether it was her music, her looks, or some other reason that I will never know, that Josh loved T-Swift. In fact, he even spent $250 on tickets to go see her in concert; $250 adult life and real world Josh would love to have back in order to spend on much more important things. High School Josh always wanted to date Swift, that way, the two would either stay together forever or he would get at least one song written about him if they ever broke up. While much of Swift’s better music is from back in the day (when the obsession was real), she still has a few good songs out now, but the obsession is over. But, in case she sees this: Taylor, I’m fine with being a stay-at-home dad if we ever become a couple.
This will be news to many of you but not to the WFNY crew: I love country music and think it’s the best ever. Whether it’s jamming out in the car, going to Blossom Music Center, or sitting around a bonfire with some tunes, I could listen to country music all day. No, not old school, slow-and-deep voice country music, but the new stuff. I don’t have a favorite artist although, Luke Bryan is one hell of a performer. My love for that genre of music travels across plenty of artists. While I can listen to all genres of music, if I had to choose just one to listen to for the rest of my life, it would absolutely be country. So, if any of you are country music fans and live in the northeast Ohio area, let me know if and when you ever go to Blossom for a concert during the summer, I go to a handful every year. Whether it’s Luke, Kenny Chesney, FGL, Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, etc., I’ve seen it all at Blossom over the last few years since I’ve been getting the MegaTicket.
Seriously, you guys honestly thought I could get through my first WWW without talking about sports? Much like Texas Rangers catcher Jonathan Lucroy, who declined a trade to come to the Indians, I am currently sitting on my couch right now while the Indians are set to begin Game 3 of the World Series Friday night in Chi-town. Lucroy thought he had a better chance to make the World Series with the Rangers, but the joke is obviously on him. While the team would look much different if he was behind the plate, luckily for the Indians, he vetoed the deal. Roberto Perez has been outstanding behind the plate, to say the least. He has done a great job calling the game and has been one of the main reasons why the pitching staff has done so well, let alone what he has done in the batter’s box. So Jonathan Lucroy, thanks for rejecting the deal to come to The Land: I hope you enjoy the rest of the World Series while sitting on your couch.
With all that being said, the Indians start a very important weekend. With the series at even at 1-1, they must win one of the three games in Chicago this weekend in order to bring the series back to Cleveland for Game 6 (and possibly a Game 7). Josh Tomlin will be taking the mound Friday night, he will have one very special guest in attendance: His dad. If you haven’t read this wonderfully written piece from cleveland.com’s Zack Meisel, I suggest doing so at some point today before first pitch. To say emotions will be running high for his first ever start in the World Series would be an understatement. Roll Tribe!

My boys are also big Luke Bryan fans.
Sorry to hear that.
A fun, enjoyable Friday WWW Josh – thanks!
I am also a fan of country music, however I’m having a “Get off my lawn!” reaction to the newest crop of pop/country crossovers. While I can still tune into WGAR and more or less enjoy it, my ears wish for the stuff from the 90’s and early aughts when I first started enjoying the genre.
Same here. Won’t reiterate it here, but I said much the same the other day.:

I don’t begrudge anyone their own tastes, though.
Tthat Tomlin article is incredible and I didn’t know anything about it. Thanks for sharing!
Much to my kids’ humiliation, I have been and still am an unrepentant Taylor Swift fan. Not Swift the performer or ubiquitous headline seeker, just the songwriter. Writing fine pop songs is an art, and she is an artist. The rest of her shtick is just money grubbing and attention whoring, which is easy enough for someone removed from pop culture to ignore and forgive.
I second that. I read it this morning and was touched by it. Terrific job by Maisel. Like you, Andrew, I had no idea all that was going on.

Say it isn’t so.
Josh, let’s ease up on Lucroy.
First, if he did think the Rangers had a better shot at the Series, who could blame him?
But there is one very good reason why he went to Texas. From what I’ve read, the Indians would not give Lucroy any assurance that he would be a catcher here. Since we already have Gomes, the Tribe would likely have tried to make Lucroy an outfielder or DH or something. And I guess they told him that. And he didn’t want that.
Finally, I believe Lucroy lives in Loozeyana, so Texas is much closer to home geographically and culturally.
So I wouldn’t bust him for that decision.
P.S. We wish Joe Buck could call a game as well as Roberto Perez. Have you seen some of the Buck-Schwarber wedding memes going around? Some are really good.
Somebody made a wedding registry for them. https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/giftregistry/view_registry_guest.jsp?pwsToken=&eventType=Wedding®istryId=543917460&pwsurl=
Sorry, I like what I like. And to paraphrase Potter Stewart’s definition of pornography, I know it when I hear it. (And that goes for my little dog, too).
Apparently, there won’t be any Schwarbling for games 3, 4, 5.
I think I hear the distinct sound of weeping and gnashing of teeth emanating from Joe Buck’s personal trailer.

agree. When he had hours to decide I doubt it was ever about this year’s WS chances so much as the “family considerations” (read: money) he cited.
Lucroy’s best chance at his first/last huge guaranteed bucks in a place he prefers to live was in Texas, impressing the Rangers close up. There’s no reason for locals to take it personally. He demanded a no-trade clause for a reason.
I was hoping your account got hacked, then I saw the Potter Stewart reference…
I heard Taylor Swift songs. But that’s me.
Hacking skills
FOUND IT!!
Joe Buck listens to Justin Bieber.
I see JT is still a Brown…

What’s he gonna ramble about for 4 hours?
I’m torn on Swift. She writes some awful songs like the one about never ever ever ever getting back together but has some decent ones too.
