Ohio State upset by Penn State: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
October 25, 2016A World Series and a Championship Ring Ceremony on the same night? – WFNY Podcast No. 546
October 25, 2016Tuesday, October 25th, 2016, will be a day (and night) that Cleveland sports fans will never forget. For months, fans dreamed of the Cleveland Indians making it to the World Series and hosting Game 1 the same night the Cleveland Cavaliers would host the New York Knicks in the NBA’s season opener. When the Indians clinched the AL Pennant by beating the Toronto Blue Jays, that dream became a reality.
In Quicken Loans Arena, it will be more than just one game and more than just any regular season opener for the Cavs. This time around, the wine and gold will celebrate last season’s NBA championship by receiving their title rings and raising the “NBA Champions” banner prior to the start of the game. In all actuality, fans are most likely looking forward to the pregame festivities more than the actual game itself.
Across Gateway Plaza, the Indians will host the Chicago Cubs in Game 1 of the World Series. With two of the longest title droughts in the MLB (Indians last won in 1948, Cubs in 1908), there will be plenty on the line for both teams.
But, whether it’s the pregame festivities, the actual games themselves, or just the fact that two of the biggest events in Cleveland sports history will be taking place less than the length of the Cleveland Browns football field,1 it will be a special day for the city of Cleveland. Cavs star LeBron James seems to agree, per espn.com’s Dave McMenamin.
“It’s a special day for our fans in Cleveland, in Northeast Ohio to be able to live and enjoy for a day. They get an opportunity to just remember this day, us receiving our rings and our Indians being able to host Game 1 of the World Series, so, it’s a day that will go down in history. For anyone that lives here, they will never forget it. So, I’m happy I’m a part of it.”
Unless you’re a media member with credentials for both games or have plenty of money, fans will unfortunately not be able to attend both events. But, whether you’re a fan watching from your home from somewhere in the world, at a bar downtown enjoying the atmosphere, or at either the Cavs or Indians game, enjoy it Cleveland. Days like these don’t come around too often so don’t take it for granted.
Christmas may be December 25th, but this year, it has come two months early. Merry Clevemas, The Land!

So, I assume the banner hanging happens at 7:30, and will be broadcast in Progressive Field before that game starts at 8:00.
Man, how awesome is that going to be!
My brother just texted me, LBJ is providing a semi-truck sized ice cream truck between The Q and Progressive Field.
Ugh, I wish I was there!
Group of 4 cousins + two uncles going and I’m sitting here in my Lindor AS jersey watching crappy ESPN waiting for the festivities to start.
Enjoy the day, fans! We’ve waited a long time.
