October 28, 2016With Game 3 of the World Series set to begin Friday night in Chicago, Cleveland Indians shortstop received some exciting news on Thursday: He has been selected as a Gold Glove Award finalist at shortstop.
Here’s Rawling Sports’ announcement:
#Rawlings #GoldGlove Award Finalists – AL SS – @tigers @JoseIglesias_SS, @Angels @Andrelton, @Indians @Lindor12BC

Lindor has been one of the main reasons why the Indians are currently in the World Series. Whether it’s what he does at the plate or his incredible job in the field, the shortstop has already arguably made himself the face of the Indians. In the national spotlight, he has let the entire country see just how good the he is at the plate and in the field, complete with his ear-to-ear grin.
Throughout the season, Lindor has made hard plays look like easy, routine ones. Plays that would make the highlight-reel for most other players are just normal for No. 12.

In 158 games during the regular season, Lindor committed just 12 errors (six fielding, six throwing) while totaling 448 assists, and 214 putouts. He and second baseman Jason Kipnis (and other backup second basemen) combined for 78 double plays (38 that he started, 38 that he turned). Frankie’s fielding percentage increased from 97.4 percent in 2015 to 98.2 percent this season.
With his great work in the field, the kid totaled 17 defensive runs saved, which was second in the AL. In first place? Atlanta’s Andrelton Simmons, who finished with 18 defensive runs saved. Iglesias finished the season with just three.
Before Lindor arrived in the big leagues during the 2015 season, the Indians were the worst fielding team in the league in 2014. This season? The club was ninth in defensive runs saved and 12th in fielding percentage. While that is due to plenty of help all around the field, Lindor is a big reason why the defense has turned around since just two years ago.
The last two Indians to be named Gold Glove finalists were catcher Yan Gomes and left fielder Michael Brantley, both of which were in 2014. Former Tribe great Omar Vizquel was the last Indians shortstop to win it in 2001.
Just 22 years old, Lindor already has an All Star Game appearance and World Series appearance under his belt, along with finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2015. Can he add some gold to that belt? We will find out November 8, when the winners will be revealed on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET.
Detroit Tigers’ Jose Iglesias and Los Angeles Angels’ Andrelton Simmons are the other two finalists for the American League Gold Glover at shortstop. Simmons won the Gold Glove win 2013 and 2014, while part of the Atlanta Braves in the National League.
