September 19, 2016Josh McCown’s Shoulder Injury Appears to be Serious
September 19, 2016Week 4 of the high school football season in Northeast Ohio had quite the shake-ups. It saw multiple losses from teams within my Top 10. This week really has reshaped the high school football landscape. So, with all these losses, my Top 10 will see a new No. 1 and few new teams in the rankings. It was a wild and surprising week of football.

Recap of the Top Matchup of the Week
Avon beats Midview 45-28
The Midview Middies came into their game versus Avon unbeaten, but left with their first loss of the season, falling 45-28 to Avon. Midview started out with a strong showing, leading Avon 21-7 early in the second quarter. But, the Eagles were able to make a huge run, outscoring Midview 38-7 for the rest of the game. Avon was led by running back Mason McLemore, who rushed for 204 yards and tow touchdowns in the game. The Middies were led by quarterback Dustin Crum, who threw for 279 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Avon remains unbeaten at 4-0, while Midview falls to 3-1.
Best Performance
Avon takes down Midview 45-28
Avon put on a heck of a performance in their victory over previously unbeaten Midview. The Eagles used their high-powered running game to power past Midview. In the game, Avon ran for 405 yards on the ground. On the defensive side of the ball, Avon was also quite impressive. Facing an impressive talent in Midview’s quarterback Dustin Crum, the Avon defense was able to put the clamps on the Middies defense in the second half, holding them to just seven points. It was an impressive performance for Avon to take down the previously unbeaten Midview Middies.
Biggest Surprise
Mentor’s continual struggle
Coming into the season, I had Mentor as the second best team in Northeast Ohio. But, after their third straight loss, the Cardinals are now out of my top ten and in a big tumble. Mentor lost their third game of the season, falling to Euclid 47-37. The Cardinals defense has really struggled this season, but an even bigger shock has been the struggle of the Cardinals offense. Going into the season, they were thought to be one of the best scoring teams in the area and possibly the state. But, this season has just not gone as planned for Mentor, currently at 1-3 after four games.
Best Individual Performance
RB Jimmy Daw, Medina
The Medina offense has been led all season by their star running back Jimmy Daw. The Bees’ victory over Elyria in Week 4 was yet another Daw-led win. Daw scored six touchdowns in the win over Elyria. He rushed 19 times for 65 yards and six touchdowns, while also adding three receptions for 86 yards. He has already scored a school-record 17 touchdowns so far this season.

Past Week: Win @ Warrensville Heights 35-32
Next Week: @ Maple Heights on Saturday

Archbishop Hoban moves up one spot this week after cruising to a 63-14 victory over Royal Imperial Collegiate from Canada. Hoban has just one loss so far this season and that came in a close one against St. Edward.
- Stow (4-0)
Last Week Ranking: 4
Past Week: Win vs. Wadsworth 38-14
Next Week: vs. Nordonia on Friday
Stow remained unbeaten this week and soared to No. 1 in my rankings, cruising to 38-14 win over Wadsworth. Stow is amongst a select few who have remained unbeaten after four weeks of the 2016 high school football season.
Top Matchup Next Week
No. 5 Solon vs. Euclid on Friday
There are not a lot of big time matchups this week. But, an under-the-radar game is probably the game of the week. Euclid will travel to Solon on Friday to face the 3-1 Comets. Both teams come in at 3-1 on the season and have faced a pretty tough schedule so far this season. Euclid has big wins over Mentor and Glenville, while Solon has done the same against Aurora and Brunswick. I am going with Solon, but Euclid could surprise and take the victory on Friday.
