Sorry Detroit, the Indians are just better : Between Innings
August 16, 2016Who’s to blame for the Michael Brantley saga? Everyone.
August 16, 2016For the first time since December 26, 2014, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon participated in the team’s practice on Monday after being activated off the team’s non-football injury (Or “NFI”) list. Following practice, the wideout admitted that he was happy to be back out there with his teammates for the first time since the final week of the 2014 season.
“I think every day that I’m back means a lot to me. I’m glad to be out there with my brothers, put my helmet back on and get back in the swing of things,” he said, “Yeah, it’s something that I really haven’t felt in a long time. Once you get that type of feeling, type of vibe and environment being around happy people, it kind of just rubs off you. I’ve missed it. Being back in it, I love it and I try to take full advantage of it. I’m glad to be back and that’s probably what you saw there.”
Although it seems like forever ago, Gordon took the NFL by storm in 2013 when he turned plenty of heads with his ability to create plays. In just 14 games (as he was suspended for the first two weeks of the season), he had a league-high 1,646 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 87 receptions during what was just his second season in the NFL. While it may have been three years ago, the 25-year-old believes that he can bring that magic back to the Browns in 2016.
“I’m definitely the same guy. I’m confident in my abilities. I know what I can do. Just given the opportunity and the right timing, right position and the relying on the rest of the team as much as they rely on me, it’s a great boost of motivation and anything is possible for anybody. But I definitely am aware of what I can do and I think I can build upon that and do even better.”
For the first time as his head coach, Hue Jackson was able to see a little glimpse of what Gordon can do during Monday’s practice. As expected, Jackson was excited to get him back on the practice field.
“It was great. It was great. It was good to watch him move around, catch the ball and be involved with his teammates. As I said, he’s done a great job and we’re just working our plan.”
Unfortunately, Gordon isn’t expected to play in the team’s second game of the preseason this Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons because the head coach wants him to ease his way back in, especially after he will have only participated in three practices prior to the game.
“Probably not. More than likely not. We’re just working the process, and this is the next step in the process for him to get out, catch balls, start getting involved and running around a little bit.”
Although he was reinstated on July 25, Gordon was suspended for the first four games of the season. He is expected to make his 2016 debut in the Browns Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots, the same game Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will also make his season debut.

When asked about his goals for this season Gordon was blunt, “I plan on smoking DBs this year. I want to be the highest in TDs, catches and yards.”
Seeing those uniforms makes me sad…
Boys, move on from the uniforms, please.
Yes, Alec
That’s actually quite funny. But still…
Great news! Now, trade him for starting OL.
Seeing the Browns makes me sad.
The whole OL? But we only need 3 of them.
The offense has the potential to be good. Either that or I’m just a homer.
I mentally traded Joe Thomas last year.
Josh, re your headline, did he show “plenty of promise”? Heard Grossi say his practice activity was very limited. Hue seems to be speaking generally about his injury rehab and football re-acclimation.
If you saw something in particular would be interested to hear about it.
Ixnay on the okingsmay…
Classic case of Stockholm Syndrome
I hope you made them throw in a mental Brett Ratliff in the deal
He sounds a lot like Johnny Football.
In my mind, Matt Flynn is the starting QB.
It feels somewhat criminal that we weren’t the team that blew $60 million on a QB who is now out of the league. How did we dodge that bullet? I call shenanigans
Well in my defense, I also have them going 4-12.
Brain does not compute Browns w/o Joe Thomas.
When all else fails, I watch JoeT for a couple plays and ignore everything else. It is my zen.

the Browns are many things, but they have managed to spend very little on their QB carousel throughout the years.
Let’s correct your above statement if that is OK:
The offense has the potential to make a few big plays for both themselves and the other team while the score is close. Then, they have some players that will be fun to watch rack up meaningless yards in garbage time.
That’s because 43% of the salary cap is annually bound up in paying ex-head coaches dating back to 2004. Got to cut somewhere, and why invest in the QB position?!
Burrrrrrp…Holmgren just scarfed down another free rack of ribs and pitcher of Mai Tais.
He’s basically just a half-sentient gut at this point
“Let me be blunt. I just listen to what The Head Coach tells me, I mean, I’ll do whatever THC wants.”
I know, right? That old orange just doesn’t reflect the passion of the Dawg Pound!
I think he promised the team he wouldn’t smoke as much, errrr, wouldn’t smoke any weed this season.
