August 18, 2016With the NFL season quickly approaching, Pro Football Focus decided to release their All-Decade (from 2006-15) team on Wednesday, one that features one Cleveland Brown. Left tackle Joe Thomas was the lone player to represent the Browns on the team, but as one of the most dominant offensive lineman in recent history, he was more than deserving of the honors.
A model of consistency, Joe Thomas has never been ranked outside the top eight tackles in the league, and has been ranked first and second twice apiece. While pass protection has always been his forte (an average grade of 90.3 in that facet of play), his run blocking isn’t bad, either, with an average grade of 84.8 in that regard over the last three seasons.
Thomas may not only be one of the best to ever put on a Browns jersey, but he may go down as one of the best left tackles in NFL history when all is said and done. The 31-year-old has had an incredible career already, even though it has come on a team that is consistently in the cellar of the league. In his nine-year career so far, Thomas has yet to miss a single snap (NFL-best 8,959 consecutive snaps in 144 games) or Pro Bowl (nine) so far in his NFL career. The 6-foot-7, 311-pound lineman has received high praise from players around the league, including former teammates, via Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot:
Falcons center Alex Mack: “Joe Thomas is the best tackle in the game right now.”
Chargers wide receiver Travis Benjamin: “Hands down the best.”
Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap: “”He’s always been to the Pro Bowl because he’s that dominant of a player. He can dance with the best of them. It doesn’t matter how fast guys come off the edge, he has the ability to move with them. If you see one guy that has not changed, that’s that left tackle right there. And we have to play him twice a year.”
Bears guard Kyle Long: “There’s a lot of guys who probably question whether or not they want to do it in that locker after playing Joe Thomas. He’s a super nice guy. You watch him play and it’s kind of boring to be honest. It’s like watching a great defensive back over there in man coverage and everyone else is in a zone.”

Yeah, was obviously joking. Sucks that Troy & Reed were divisional opponents who would squash us even the few times we were competitive with those teams.
