ESPN’s John Clayton has Browns among most regressed NFL teams for 2016
May 13, 2016Believeland: A story about sports, but mostly a story about Cleveland
May 13, 2016You cannot blame the Cleveland Browns if you are wondering who Corey Coleman is. The wide receiver selected with the 15th-overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft has had multiple videos of his “firsts” with the team released. Coleman’s path to the draft, initial phone call in the NFL Green Room, first press conference as a Brown, first trip to Cleveland and FirstEnergy Stadium with his family, first trip to the team’s facility in Berea, first time shaking head coach Hue Jackson’s hand as a member of the Browns, and first time meeting Cleveland’s other rookies have all gone full-Millennial by historically preserving the moments with video.
Coleman demonstrated he is an emotionally exuberant player when he received the call from the Browns on draft night. He could not hold back his excitement, and he displays the same type of energy in the most recent video released as he and his family take a tour of the Brown’s facilities.
The 5-foot-11, 194-pound receiver intends on living up to his own comparisons – as he has already thrown out Pittsburgh Steeler Antonio Brown as the type of player he is targeting. WFNY’s Michael Bode thought a DeSean Jackson comparison was more apt.
With Coleman’s speed, explosiveness off the snap, jumping ability, and quickness, Desean Jackson is probably the most easily replicable player for Coleman in his rookie year. Utilizing his speed and abilities to get down the field where RG3 is at his best delivering the ball will be a welcome component to the Browns offense. However, if Coleman really does want to become considered the best wide receiver from this class, then aiming to learn the footwork and routes of Antonio Brown is a fantastic goal. The willingness to work on having precise timing and the ability to change speed and direction at will are traits Coleman might develop, but does not presently have.
But, given his background, work ethic, and drive for greatness, I am not willing to bet against him either.
Regardless, Browns fans should have the expectation to need to match the excitement level the 21-year-old showed in the video. And, while the videos are a nice peek, the desire is for Corey Coleman to get up-close and personal with the Dawg Pound this fall after scoring a touchdown—or 10.

Smart enough to mouth all the cliches. But startling how young these guys are – does he or Ogbah even shave yet?
That is what is so impressive about LeBron. For him to go the NBA as a kid and still have it so together is remarkable. I know I wouldn’t have been ready for it.
