The Cleveland Browns played good poker at least: While We’re Waiting…

April 29, 2016Joey Bosa was just the tip of the iceberg. For head coach Urban Meyer and five former Ohio State Buckeyes, Thursday night’s first round of the 2016 NFL Draft was a special one. With five former Buckeyes in the green room, along with many of the coaches, the Bucks saw all five of those players get selected within the top-20 picks, including three in the top-10:
- DE Joey Bosa chosen by the San Diego Chargers at No. 3
- RB Ezekiel Elliott was taken with the fourth overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys
- CB Eli Apple went to the New York Giants at No. 10
- OT Taylor Decker was selected with the No. 16 pick by the Detroit Lions
- LB Darron Lee selected by the New York Jets at No. 20
How impressive is that list of first round picks for Ohio State? They tied a school record with five picks in the first round and also tied a Penn State record with three picks in the top-10, something that Zeke said is expected from The Ohio State University, per Eleven Warriors’ Eric Seger.
“That’s what is expected from Ohio State. That’s why we all went to The Ohio State University, because we knew we were going to be prepared to play at the next level.”
Just how impressive was Elliott’s early selection? He is the fourth-highest drafted Big Ten running back in the modern era (1967-present), and beat out Penn State’s Curtis Enis for the highest selected running back in the conference since 1998.
With so much talent taken in the first round, Decker admitted that he and the other four Buckeyes selected in the first round were almost like walking billboards for Urban Meyer’s program.
“I wouldn’t say it was an infomercial, but maybe a family reunion sort of thing. We’ve all been out doing our own things, training for the combine, training for pro day and all that stuff. We kind of been all out doing our own things and just come back together and kind of go ‘wow, look at that great program you built. Look at the coaches, look at these players.’ It’s just an amazing day for us and an amazing day for Ohio State fans everywhere.”
With five first-round picks, Ohio State (74 players selected in the first round) trails only USC (79) for the most first-round picks of any college program. For those of you keeping score at home, Michigan didn’t have a single player selected in the first round Thursday night.
These five Buckeyes had their dreams come true Thursday night, and Ohio State saw a ton of talent go on to the next level, but an incredible night like this should help Meyer and company in the future as well whether it be in recruiting or just the fact that they now have proof that they produce plenty of NFL talent. And keep in mind, this was only the first round of the draft. Ohio State will have plenty more players taken Friday night and Saturday afternoon, in the final six rounds.

Urb should just tell potential recruits to watch the 2016 draft.

LMAO !!
Back to back picks 3 and 4 Ez-e landed in probably the best place he could have ever wanted. I think Apple at 10 was a stretch by NY however but go Bucks!
