Indians starting rotation as a starting NFL quarterback – WFNY Podcast No. 467
March 9, 2016Another one: Tashaun Gipson leaving Browns for Jacksonville
March 9, 2016Bad things come in threes, right? With Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack heading to Atlanta and wide receiver Travis Benjamin heading to San Diego, the Browns have also now lost right tackle Mitchell Schwartz to Kansas City on a five-year, $33 million deal. The move was confirmed by Schwartz’ brother, Geoff.
So proud of my brother, @MitchSchwartz72 on his deal with the @Chiefs! Went through some nonsense today, and ended up in a great spot. @NFL

On Tuesday, rumors were swirling that the Bucs, Falcons, Giants, and Vikings were interested in the right tackle, but the Chiefs came out of no where with the deal when free agency officially started Wednesday afternoon.
The 26-year old will join an offensive line that, according to Pro Football Focus, was the 22nd-best in the NFL in 2015. One of the best right tackles in the league will anchor an offensive line that will lead the way for Jamaal Charles and company.
After being selected with 37th overall pick in 2012 by the Browns, Schwartz didn’t miss a snap and started all 64 games while in Cleveland. Coming off the best season of his career in 2015, his deal with the Chiefs is for five years, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. While the money is not known just yet, Schwartz is expected to be one of the highest paid right tackles and offensive lineman in the NFL.
According to Pro Football Talk, the Browns had an offer for Schwartz Wednesday afternoon but surprisingly decided to pull the offer just hours before the free agent market officially opened at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday.
With Mack and Schwartz heading elsewhere, Cleveland, who is expected to draft a quarterback with the second overall pick of the 2016 draft that starts April 28, will be without 40 percent of their starting offensive line from 2015.
In just the first day of free agency, the Browns have already lost their best wide receiver, and two of their three best offensive lineman. Oh, and they have yet to release Johnny Manziel.

well, i thought about that, and I can’t say i totally agree. Some part of me is pissed, sure, but another part of me is proud that they have the pride to rip up the Schwartz deal because they felt they were being used.
Right – i can’t believe i took the bait. Of course Mack, Schwartz, et al have EVERYTHING to lose by saying they want out. They need to make it seem like the Browns have every chance in the world to sign them. Simple supply and demand economics, and I missed it.
hundred. I don’t care what he graded out. I was never on the Schwartz train.
Seriously, Cleveland ranked 25th in rushing offense and gave up the second most sacks in the NFL last year. Outside of Joe Thomas, the offensive line has been hugely overated. Mack is not worth more money than Joe Thomas, PERIOD.
Gipson, yes, lead league in INTs twice. Okay, but he sucked last year, keeping it real. His big INT of the year he fumbled ala Brandon Marshall.
Schwartz to me is the only “real” loss, just because he is young still.
I told us all last year, if the Browns did not improve their 7-9 record, half the “good” players would leave. This has been a long time coming. The Browns were 3-13 and tied for the worst team in the NFL with these guys. I trust the Harvard crew, Browns did NOT overspend.
Who is cheaper, Wentz/Goth or Osweiler? The two rookies will get around $25M guaranteed, that is it. Osweiler just got $72M based on POTENTIAL alone. ASSinine… Harvard guys did not over pay for 3-13 football players. Good move…
