Ohio State to raise banner for Evan Turner

February 16, 2016The NFL Draft may still be a couple months away, but former California quarterback and one of the top quarterback prospects in the draft, Jared Goff has already been asked about the possibility of joining the Cleveland Browns. In an interview with Peter King of The Monday Morning Quarterback on Monday, Goff was excited about possibly being the Browns next franchise quarterback, where previous quarterbacks have “gone to die.”
“I’m not worried about it. I’m excited about it. Whatever team I go to, I’ll be excited to go. I want to be the future of a franchise. I think I can be a guy who can make an impact right away.”
While he shared his excitement about possibly playing for the Browns, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound gunslinger didn’t hesitate to comment on competing with former North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz and former Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch to be the top quarterback taken in the upcoming draft. In fact, he was very confident in thinking that he is the top quarterback.
“I think my accuracy is as good as it gets at this level. I think my pocket presence and my ability to extend plays speak for themselves. I’m confident I’ll be the best quarterback in the draft.”
Goff is already familiar with Browns head coach Hue Jackson, due to the fact that the new head coach was a former California assistant in 1996, but the two have never met before. They had a chance to meet while both were touring radio row during the week leading up to the Super Bowl, but unfortunately missed each other.
Both of ESPN’s Todd McShay (in his second mock draft) and Mel Kiper have the Browns taking Goff with the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft. The three quarterbacks will be together next week at the NFL Combine, where they will be able to show who is truly the best quarterback of the trio.

Goff is still my favorite for #2, but it seems like all the experts have the Browns taking Wentz.

That Goff kid, age 2 in 1996, was a real student of the game!
(And for the record, I’m team Goff).

Goff is excited, yes. Bode may be 10x more excited though 🙂
Team bode16
But, is the Sashimatic Computalator excited about him?
pff we cant go wrong with trading down/up for #22 and taking best available QB
Promptly gets arrested.
My excitement goes to 11x!
🙂
Let’s step back though…Goff is the obvious best QB in the draft. MSM did their best to have Lynch as foil, but he was exposed. So, they have to try with a FCS QB with limited experience playing .
I am nervous about Goff’s physique and the system he played in while he was at Cal. That said, I honestly think you can make a fair argument for any of the top 3 QBs in this class.
Please don’t tell me you’re including Lynch.
It’s obviously Cardale Jones… :-O
I am, although he’d be third in my personal list, with Goff and Wentz going first and second depending on what I read that day :p
I would be very happy if the Browns land Goff. I still think you’re too concerned about the number of games Wentz has on tape (even the best evaluators only watch 5-7 of a top player’s games), but I do like Goff’s ability to navigate the pocket and I like that he puts some air under his deep ball. I’ve seen some criticisms of the fact that he doesn’t throw a laser long ball and I don’t get that. I don’t think you want that, it significantly reduces the chances of your receiver being able to catch the ball. My concerns with Goff are entirely from the perspective of his college offense (well that and he seems to throw off of his back foot too much for my liking). His head coach ran the “Bear Raid” offense (similar to the Air Raid offense run by Mike Lynch at Texas Tech and Washington State), so I wish I was able to see him operate under center before drafting. But there’s always some risk with selecting any player in the draft and I like just about everything else I’ve seen from Goff.
I suspect Bode is feverishly preparing for the NFL combine to start next week, so he can present us with in depth analysis of all the top prospects that the Browns won’t draft.
I am excited to trade down and draft another fat guy!
But I am seriously excited for the draft this year. I hope Hue & the Pocket Protector Squad don’t disappoint too much.
He just looks more raw to me and it is an easy talking point 🙂
Bah! Humbug! A pox on your “raw”.
He has pox too? Another red flag!!
