MLB Trade Rumors: Indians asked for A.J. Pollock in return for Danny Salazar
December 8, 2015Browns ABC’s: Accidental Blue Chip Players, Week 12
December 8, 2015It’s official: Johnny Manziel is back in the starting lineup. Reports saying as much came out on Monday, while Browns head coach Mike Pettine claimed that no decision had yet been made. It has been now. (Whether it was made by Pettine or the Browns front office, who knows?)
From the Browns’ official announcement:
“Johnny will be our starting quarterback on Sunday,” Browns coach Mike Pettine said. “He’s been solid in the building over the last couple of weeks and we are hopeful he takes this opportunity to continue to build on the progress he’s made on the field throughout the season. The goal for every game is to go out and win, and Johnny needs to show that he can put us in position to do so during these last four weeks of the season.”
Manziel was benched before the Browns game against the Baltimore Ravens after pictures and videos of him partying in Texas during the team’s bye week were posted online.
In parts of six total games this season (three starts), Manziel has completed 76-of-128 passes for 933 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. His last start came against Pittsburgh on Nov. 15.
This means we’ll have Johnny Manziel vs. Blaine Gabbert when the Browns take on the San Francisco 49ers at FirstEnergy Stadium this Sunday. Any guesses at what attendance might be?

Good luck Deuce ‘cuz you are gonna need it!
Doesn’t matter who starts for this trainwreck anymore. Just hope Johnny plays well enough for the rest of the season to earn the starting spot in 2016.
Actual butts in seats attendance? 30,000 or so.

I hope Johnny sparks the Browns to 4 straight wins – not because I need the wins, but because I hope he’s able to give the organization the finger, and the money sign, while demanding the trade that he’ll certainly get.

i’m wondering if pettine was forced to start manziel …
So, I was bored. Did some math. On offensive scores this season. (so I have omitted the two defensive and one ST scores on the year)
Josh McCown has led the Browns to 136 points in 28 quarters, so 19.4 points per every 4 quarters
Johnny ManChild has led the Browns to 50 points in 16.25 quarters, 12.3 points per every 4 quarters
Austin Davis has led the Browns to 10 points in 4.75 quarters, 8.4 points per every 4 quarters.
I can understand why Pettine pushed so hard for McCown to play regardless of his health.. he was a touchdown better than Johnny per game.. Now, starting Davis was just a personal attack on Johnny, a punishment for his refusal to “get in line”..
That being said.. Watching the rookies this year (Mariota and Winston) and how they are already better than McCown, I’m fairly convinced we can do better than the hack known as “Johnny Football”.. However, he was a first round pick, so, I am in favor of letting him play, at least just to let him prove how inept he is.
A few caveats*
In Johnny’s start against the Steelers, if the Browns don’t accrue nearly 200 yards in penalties, I believe they score more than 9 points
If the Browns had ANY legitimate outside threat.. well.. things would be interesting.
At least the kicker has been good (you know, when he doesn’t have to kick so low to get distance.. though, I’m starting to think maybe he just has a bad trajectory for long kicks and that’s why he has been blocked in back to back weeks)..
I hate this team so much.. and yet, I am compelled to keep watching.
I’m rubber necking on the freeway unable to look away from the mangled metal and dismembered bodies of this awful 30 car pile up otherwise known as the Cleveland Browns…
Austin Davis, like a cheap date doing the walk of shame out of the house early the next morning because you woke up and the hot chick that keeps acting like a psychopath when you’re out just text you that she’s so sorry and free that night.
In an absolute want of just pure chaos now; yes.
Manziel playing well enough to earn the starting spot for next year would be the absolute cherry on the top of this garbage sundae.
they’ll have more i’m sure.
They still have to play the Chiefs, Seahawks and Steelers. We’re looking at possible scores of 40-7.
Carol is a good analogy here for Manziel.
Smiles to your face but carrying a dagger in the back pocket ready to stab his own career to death.
I hope he plays well enough to get traded for a decent draft pick.
All three of those defensive units are already salivating with the thought of feasting on the carcass of Manziel.

I’m sure he was. If not, that was the dumbest discipline ever. I mean, it still is, but if this was his idea, all Pettine did was hurt himself.
no, he will play well enough for there to be a “competition” in training camp, well enough that we dont go into the offseason with QB at or near the top of the priority list.
good post TR …
Good post, however Manziel has gotten progressively better when he has played. And that is the whole point. Let him get better. Maybe he is a “hack” but let’s be certain before we trade him to the Cowboys for a fifth rounder.
I agree that we should see what he can do. Someone (Haslam) should have sat Pettine down and said to him flat out, “start Johnny this year, if he flames out, it’s not on you, coach him up to be a star and if he can’t hack it, so be it”.. Because, otherwise, if you are a coach, you go with McCown, he’s better at the moment. There is no question. However, the Browns have to be forward thinking and McCown is NOT the future and never was, so someone in upper management had to let Pettine know that his future was contingent on getting an answer to the question of “can Johnny play?” and that his job was secure no matter the answer, as long as they GOT AN ANSWER.
But, it’s a garbage organization with only a few brain cells to rub together between the bunch of knuckleheads.. so.. you get what we’ve got…
