August 5, 2015There have been rumors floating around as to whether or not Cleveland Cavaliers point-forward LeBron James will attend the upcoming USA Basketball mini-camp. On Tuesday, James put those rumors to rest when someone in his camp told USA Basketball that the star will attend a portion of the mini-camp next week in Las Vegas.
He will only attend a portion of the camp because it coincides with the LeBron James Family Foundation annual Family Reunion event, to be held in Akron on August 13. With the event scheduled before the USA Basketball mini-camp, it was something that James could not miss as a player must attend the camp in order to have a chance to participate in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
James, 30, has been a part of USA Basketball since he was 19. In 24 Olympic games, he has averaged 11.4 points, four rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks. He has won two Olympic gold medals: 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London. In 2004, James and Team USA only won the bronze medal in Athens.
The Cavaliers star has expressed his fondness for USA Basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski, which could play a role into James’ decision.
The Akron native is not expected to make a decision on whether he will play for the US in Rio until after the 2015-16 NBA season.
