Forget Trainwreck, LeBron James is a Vine star
July 18, 2015Who has fast feet? Comparing Terrelle Pryor, Taylor Gabriel and Andrew Hawkins
July 18, 2015You can’t teach height. That’s not only one of the most hackneyed basketball cliches known to human kind, it’s also absolutely 100% true. The Cavaliers could always use some more height, thus the signing of Kendrick Perkins for the stretch run a season ago. As Perkins still sits unsigned in NBA free agency, the Cavaliers are talking to Sasha Kaun, whose draft rights the Cavaliers have had since 2008.
Kaun seems interested in coming to the NBA at age 30 and he’s seven feet tall so the Cavaliers are interested in having him. He was on hand for the Cavaliers’ summer league finale and met with Cavs brass. He also got a chance to meet LeBron James who was there knocking down court-side shots.
The only issue might be the Cavaliers’ limited financial resources, except Kaun told NEOMG that it wouldn’t be an issue. Kaun made close to $3 million in Europe a season ago, and the Cavaliers won’t be able to approach that amount given their overextended financial situation with the NBA salary cap.
“That’s probably something that shouldn’t be a problem,” (Kaun) said. “Hopefully coming to this team, it will give us an opportunity to win, and winning is more important to me than money. I don’t think I want to do it (play basketball) because of the money. Just play basketball and enjoy it and play with some really great players. That’s the more important thing.”
For the Cavaliers, Sasha Kaun could be a really nice insurance policy for what could turn out to be another really long season. The Cavs have Timofey Mozgov and hope to have Anderson Varejao back from achilles injury, but as the Cavaliers learned in the post-season this year, you can’t have enough depth. The Cavaliers ended up going small a lot in the NBA Finals and Mozgov went to the bench frequently late during games, but you never know what you’d choose to do with different chess pieces.
While Tristan Thompson remains unsigned, it’s pretty nice to mostly be talking about smaller roster moves with regard to the Cavaliers this off-season. After Kevin Love and LeBron James re-signed, everything else – including Tristan Thompson – seems that much less urgent.
We’ll see what comes to pass with Sasha Kaun and if he’s really willing to play for so much less money than he made last season in Europe. Taking a pay cut of more than $2 million is pretty hefty.
Anyway, here’s an older video of Sasha Kaun beating Timofey Mozgov repeatedly.

Whatever the Cavs can do to get Kaun, they need to do it! A 7 footer with that kind of foot work, great hands, a heart to win and a willingness to take less money to work towards a championship? It’s a no brainer! GET THAT GUY NOW!!
For as cheap as he’d come I can’t see why the Cavs shouldn’t add him. Especially when you consider Varejao and Love’s injury history. Who knows maybe it will also remind Tristan Thompson that he’s not exactly irreplaceable either.
all this “me first” attitude on the cavs is complete bull. money, money money. meanwhile, Tim Duncan has a 5 million dollar contract. David west signed for less money to play with him. J.R and TT have good years? ok now they think they’re worth as much as Kyrie. Everyone has their hand in the pie. why can’t they just play to win like this dude?
Wasn’t he also Mozgov’s backup on the 2012 Russian team under Blatt that won Bronze?
Your Boss: “Simcha, thanks for coming to your annual review. Look, the company is looking to get aggressive this year and in order for us to hit our overall team target I need you to take less than your current market value in annual salary. I know other people in other companies doing your exact same job are making more than you, but again this is so the company can achieve it’s overall goal this year. Thanks for understanding and being a real team player.”
…..yeah, thought so.
