In search of Corey Kluber’s smile

April 1, 2015As if being shooting consultant to the Cleveland Cavaliers and ubiquitous sidekick to LeBron James wasn’t enough, Damon Jones has also found time to open his own photo studio.
Jones had been rumored to open his own studio in light of the incredible (and #nofilter) pictures he has captured on planes, in hallways, and in locker rooms. Now he wants to broaden his skills and actually make money off of his work, so he has opened his own photo studio – Amon Ones Photography, Inc.
When asked about the name, Jones said that LeBron encouraged him to drop the first letters from his first and last names.
“LeBron said I’d be like ?uestlove,” Jones said with a smile, referring to the Roots drummer. “I think it works pretty well.”
With a portfolio of photos taken in places like airport tunnels, locker room corners, and airplanes (shown below), Jones says that he can take pictures in any and all circumstances.
“Man, I just love taking pictures, especially of celebrities,” said Jones when asked about his new venture. “Why not make money off of something that I love, rather than just take them for professional basketball players?”
When he first conceived of the studio, Jones said that his dream was to be a prestigious photographer catering to the rich and famous. However, his studio has thus far mainly done pictures for weddings, high school dances, and senior pictures, rather than the celebrity-filled pictures that Jones is used to.
Jones is hopeful that James and his Cavalier teammates will start to use his photo studio so that other celebrities will follow suit. There is, however, one problem with that.
“Why would I pay him to take pictures of me when he already takes any and all pictures that I want?” James asked with a laugh.
Once Jones can figure out a way to get past high school pictures and weddings and can begin to get noticed by celebrities, he hopes that Amon Ones Inc. will become one of the most well-known photo studios in The Land.
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing for Jones, however, as his company are currently fighting a litigation lawsuit for breach of his contract. Many of his customers have complained that he has missed the crucial shots he promised to make, including wedding kisses and diploma handoffs.
Jones just has one rule for his studio. “At Amon Ones Photography, anyone being photographed must stand back at least 35 feet,” Jones said. “That’s my range.”
Damon Jones has always loved to shoot. Now, it’s about pictures instead of baskets. He may not be able to play D and may not have a J, but Jones can sure take a damn good picture.
