April 9, 2015Browns release 2015 preseason schedule
April 9, 2015While the tight end position will continue to be a need on a long-term basis, the Cleveland Browns appear to have found a 6-foot-5-inch Band-Aid in Rob Housler. According to ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler, the team has inked Housler, formerly of the Arizona Cardinals, to a one-year contract. Compensation is still unknown at this time, but Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that it is for more than league minimum.
Housler, 27, was a third round pick of the Cardinals in 2011. In 2014, he caught just nine passes for 129 yards after being targeted just 17 times. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 248 pounds, Housler should provide a substantial red zone target for whomever is under center for the Browns, joining the likes of an otherwise undersized receiving corps in Cleveland.
Housler spent Wednesday in Cleveland after visiting with the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens. Determined to link up with an AFC North team, it appears the veteran tight end found a fit with the Browns. Given the hole left by Jordan Cameron and a relatively weak tight end class in the upcoming draft, this is a low-risk, stop gap move by the Browns.

Saves an early draft pick at least.
So who are the top TE targets in next years draft and free agency?
Just grab a big dude off of Kent’s basketball team.
I’m not sure it’s fair to call Housler a tight end. He can’t block. With that said, it’s nice to add another big wide receiver to the team.
Could Cameron?
Nope, Cameron was a big wide receiver too. My point being that the Browns still need to find a tight end.
I thought Barnidge and Dray both played pretty well.
My opinion on the TE position is that there are a handful of game-changers and then a huge middle of the pack types. So I’m meh on that hoe, unless one of those top guys become a possibility.
I agree, I like Dray a lot and I thought Barnidge was adequate. Just need to grab one more TE who can block. The truth is that 1 or 2 of those middle-of-the-pack guys will end up being much better than projected. I hope that Farmer and his minions can find that guy because I’d rather shore up other positions with the Browns’ early picks.

One year without a team option for year 2 is kind of unusual. Farmer must think that there will be similar pickings at final roster cut time next summer.
Makes sense… I think the team sees Housler as a slightly-above vet-minimum player, and there should be plenty of those guys hanging around next offseason.
good signing … they have dray & barnidge to block. now they have the TE that can stretch the field.
pretty much cut from the same mold as cameron.
Who’s gonna throw to him! ? ! ? Definitely NEED a QB — more than any other team — and that’s really saying something looking at the Jets, Titans, Bills and Texans! ! !
Better then Cundiff!
who cares
