An Advantage for the Browns?
February 11, 2015Mel Kiper forecasts the Browns drafting Devante Parker and Eddie Goldman in latest mock draft
February 11, 2015Believe the Hype‘s self-assessment describes it as “a weekly NBA Podcast hosted by Tom Read and Benyam Kidane talking about all things happening in the National Basketball Association. It takes a comical, laid back, yet insightful approach to covering the NBA, not only focusing on the important issues but also a more irreverent view of the league.” Hey, I like things that insightful and laid back, as well as things that are important and irreverent! And I like basketball!
The team’s Tom Read sat down with Cleveland Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova for a rare Aussie-on-Aussie media encounter. The ‘Stralian accents are in full force and dripping in unintentional comedy. In the clip, posted below, Read grills Delly like a shrimp on the barbie about his Cavalier teammates, which had to be legitimately challenging given that half of them have been on the team for nary a month.
Besides the comedic accents, there are several fascinating tidbits in the clip. For one, we learn that JR Smith has a handicap of 13, a shockingly a great golf game for someone whose shot selection would not indicate an ability to approach the green with caution. We learn that one of the Cavaliers’ uncles was a member of the Beach Boys (does the team ever play Pet Sounds in the locker room as a tribute?). As the cherry on top, Timofey Mozgov makes a cameo off camera, feeling slighted by one of Dellavedova’s answers. Oh, what I would give to watch Dellavedova and Mozgov have a lengthy conversation about confusing movie plots—even though I wouldn’t be able to understand a word.

Makes me wonder if accents are objectively cool. Once had a client from Scotland and all the ladies in the office would find excuses to make him speak so they could swoon. Hard to imagine that Down Under they think a Cleveland accent is cool but who knows.
Hoping Cavaliers can add another big man but if not a backup PG would be nice as well. Delly in short stints is far more effective.
Timofey Mozgov has a seriously deep voice.
Can someone get him to say “I will break you.”
Was thinking the exact same thing.
