If Kyle Shanahan wants out, let him go
January 8, 2015They Gone: Kyle Shanahan and Dowell Logains officially out in Berea
January 8, 2015Whenever a Cleveland team acquires a player and you don’t know a ton about him, you want to do some research. When I was searching out Iman Shumpert I came across this highlight of an Easter NBA game between the Knicks and Bulls where Shumpert’s assignment was to guard Derrick Rose for an entire game.
Obviously, you don’t want to look at a player’s best moments and assume he can do that game-in and game-out, but this is sports and it’s fun to dream about him doing this in a playoff game, right?

I know we have some Delly-ites around here, but I am SO looking forward to Shump taking the #2 spot.
My fondness for Delly is well-documented, but I have always loved him as a rotational guard off the bench (and NOT the primary PG in any lineup)… I’m more than happy to let Shump take a shot at the starting 2-guard spot. Can you believe Shump played point guard in college? I watched him a lot when he was at Georgia Tech and I’m surprised at how he’s become just a 3-and-D guy. He used to have epic battles against Malcolm Delaney.
AMEN!
Forward that GT footage to Blatt.
Understanding that this video is from a nationally televised game 3 years ago and before his injuries, I still like what we see: a long-limbed guy with quick hands, unselfish and more than willing to do some dirty work. With plenty of jumpers already coming from Kyrie, Lebron and Love, this team needs a guy at that position enabling the stars and cleaning up their messes. In theory it looks good.
Do wish he and Mozgov were here in summer camp to work the chemistry thing. Seems like Blatt is like an amateur juggler in a nationally televised talent show where the hosts keep throwing crap at him to keep in the air while the cameras are rolling. I cannot remember a first year NBA coach given more challenges right from the jump.
I wouldn’t want to give him any ideas 🙂 Whatever Shumpert was in college, I’ve seen enough of him to know that he is not that kind of player now. I think 3-and-D is appropriate for his current skill set.
