Browns sign FB Ray Agnew, waive FB Kiero Small
November 11, 2014Kemp to CLE? Big Ten Trophies, Thad’s Schedule and Dangerous Journalism: While We’re Waiting…
November 12, 2014Safety Tashaun Gipson has been a true playmaker for the Browns defense with six interceptions so far this season. But his availability for this week’s game versus the Houston Texans could be in question. Head coach Mike Pettine announced today that Gipson has been suffering from headaches since the win versus the Cincinnati Bengals last Thursday. Pettine goes on to say that Gipson is being treated for a possible concussion because of these headaches. The evaluation of the possible concussion is part of the process of the NFL’s concussion protocol. Gipson did not practice on Tuesday because of these symptoms.
This injury concern for Tashaun Gipson has really come as a surprise. If Gipson is unable to play on Sunday, the defense will be without one of their best defenders. He has been a ballhawk for the defense and has really played great so far this season. According to ProFootballFocus, safety Tashaun Gipson (+7.9) has graded out with the second highest grade of all the Browns defenders just behind linebacker Karlos Dansby. This would be a huge loss to the improving defense if Gipson can not play. Safety Jordan Poyer would most likely fill in for Gipson at free safety if Gipson is unable to play.

Geez, just when i thought the team was starting to get healthy (besides Mack). It like never ends. I think the Browns need Gipson, as I see this game as a must win. (I know “Must win” seems crazy, but with a week schedule coming for a couple teams in our division, the Browns need to keep winning.) I just have this feeling the NFL won’t let Gordon play, there is always something…
this game is definitely not a must-win. basically, the rest of our games are possible wins and we need to find at least 4 more in 7 games. which games they are doesn’t matter much (though division and AFC games are preferred for tiebreaking purposes).
as much as I would like to see Gipson play, we need him to stay healthy. putting him out there early may only lead to a Brodney Pool-style career, so follow the protocols and hope for the best.
As happy and excited as I am about this season, this week is shaping up to end in one of those Browns tank jobs that we’ve come to know and loathe. You know, the one where we come off a big win over a tough team, we’ve had a little break, we’re favored at home, and we’re playing a weaker opponent with a shaky QB situation and then BAM! . . . we come out flat and get our cans kicked all over the place. The signs are all there.
Please not again.
except for QB, there’s a good argument to be had that Houston has more talent than our team. good thing there’s that QB position.
i’m not expecting a blowout and likely a bit of a frustrating game. hopefully, more like TB and Oakland and less like JAX.
Poyer might try to fair catch an interception.
at least if he muffs it, it’ll be a pass deflection
Next man up. That’s what the Browns players keep repeating on the sports radio shows I inexplicably obsess over, and so it goes here. Speedy recovery, Tashaun. Show us something, Poyer.
Mallett is what scares me the most. QBs that have been in the league a while with not a lot of tape on them, tend to have monster debuts because they’re so hard to prepare for.
with all of the career backups we have had to have start a game later in the year for our team, I’m surprised you think that might be true.
yes, he doesn’t have tape on him, so his tendencies won’t be as easily exposed. but, he also hasn’t had a lick of live-NFL experience, so we should be able to confuse and terrify him.
plus, unless he’s improved his accuracy and learned to tone down the 100mph fastballs on every pass, then he may just hurt himself.
I hope you’re right. I also hope the Browns are preparing themselves against the possibility I outlined above.
