The Day “The Diff” Didn’t Die

October 28, 2014Couple Jordan Cameron’s concussion with the Cleveland Browns’ upcoming schedule and the team could very well be without their Pro Bowl tight end for the next two weeks.
Cameron suffered his third concussion in less than two years on Sunday when he was hit with the shoulder pad of Oakland Raiders safety Brandin Ross. Leaving in the middle of that contest, the USC product immediately underwent tests to determine his fate and was forced to enter the league’s protocol for head injuries. The Browns play this Sunday against Tampa Bay and then have a quick turnaround for Week 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night.
“The league, as they should be, is very deliberate with the (concussion) protocol,” said coach Mike Pettine on Tuesday. “You just take each day and see where he is symptom-wise. I haven’t gotten the full medical report yet today. I’ll probably know a little bit more later this afternoon.”
Per NEOMG’s Mary Kay Cabot, Ross was fined $7,875 for a late hit last season, was flagged for hitting Cameron when he was defenseless, and can expect a fine of at least $22,050 this time around.
“As a quarterback you always feel bad, especially on a play like that,” said Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer.
Through six games this season, Cameron has just 13 receptions for 250 yards and one touchdown. Before leaving Sunday’s contest, he hauled in three catches for 40 yards.
The Browns also lost another defensive lineman having designated John Hughes to the IR with a possibility of returning for Week 17’s finale.

Two words: Jim Dray!
That means better o-line play for the next two weeks.
no Cameron doesn’t fix McDonald.
Hopefully, Winn can make it back soon. Our DL has been hit ridiculously hard this season and it is amazing we have patched together the defensive performances we have considering it.
The unfortunate injury aside, Cameron’s play this year is subpar. Sometimes the failure to sign a player with big dollar signs in their eyes works in our favor. Consider him the Browns’ Justin Masterson.
But, Dray fixes Cameron.
And I believe McDonald will improve.
I truly hope that he does.
I don’t understand the last sentence: The Browns also lost another defensive lineman having designated John Hughes to the IR with a possibility of returning for Week 17’s finale.
Does that mean he is not on IR? I thought IR meant “injured reserve, i.e. done for the season, can’t come back???”
And Dray is a pretty decent pass catcher. He doesn’t stretch the field like Cameron, but that’s ok.
I’m more worried about Schwartz’s de-evolution. He may get replaced in next year’s draft.
there’s a good chance that he’s already been replaced, but we are just waiting for Bowie to get healthy.
Oooh, I forgot about him…
designated for return IR is a special function put in last year I believe.
out for 8 weeks, but may start practicing after 6 weeks.
Why on earth could they not do that with Mack? Broken fibula is not ligaments. Even to have him back if we make the plaoffs (probably won’t happen I know) gives the team a chance if they go that far…
that is what I initially thought as well and it speaks to just how bad the break obviously was (perhaps a spiral break?).
Worrisome that it’s his third concussion in 3 seasons. My understanding is that the more concussions you have the more susceptible to them you become. Unfortunately that fact must be thrown into the pot during contract negotiations. If there was a decent amount of guaranteed money on the table last off-season Cameron may rue the day he rejected it.
