Josh Gordon hearing to continue on Monday
August 1, 2014Andrew Wiggins hasn’t spoken with LeBron James, doesn’t know what to say
August 3, 2014The Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers trade rumors are getting stronger every day. This time the news comes from a direct source, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. Taylor told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that Kevin Love will likely be traded on either August 23 or 24. Taylor told the Pioneer Press, “It’s most likely because Kevin has made it pretty clear that that’s what he wants to do.” It just so happens that August 23 is 30 days after Cavs’ number one pick Andrew Wiggins signed his rookie contract and is allowed to be traded.
The Cavaliers have been one of the leading candidates for Love ever since the team signed LeBron James. Other suitors included the Golden State Warriors and the Chicago Bulls. Cleveland became the leader over these two teams once they started including Andrew Wiggins in trade talks. Wiggins is said to be the top target for Minnesota in trade discussions, even over the Warriors’ Klay Thompson. ESPN reported Wednesday that the Cavs were the only team left in the trade talks with Minnesota. It is still unknown what else would be included in the trade for Love, but rumors of Anthony Bennett and a first round pick have been floating around. The only known fact seems to be that Kevin Love will not be a member of Minnesota Timberwolves for long.

I want a Title just as much as the next guy, but Love to Cleveland just reeks of Miami 2.0. We’re going to eventually have the same issues they did with filling out the team. With a city like Cleveland I feel you have to go the San Antonio route and build something that’s lasting. Which I feel you have a better shot doing by keeping Wiggins.
I’ll be OK either way, but I’d rather just roll forward with the current team we have. Bottom line… this is a great “problem” to have. lol
given the owner’s loose lips about the trade date, maybe time to stop our collective fantasy that we managed to hang onto Wiggins. Ok, I kinda like our roster relative to 3 months ago.
Dear Dan Gilbert,
Four years ago we made a promise. We would never let a player’s influence be the guiding force of every decision in the organization. Building through the draft would be the only path toward long term success.
Four years ago, the city was trampled on national television. The Cavaliers were only a few games from reaching the finals when their leader quit.
Four years have passed and we’ve had time to recover, to rebuild, and yes even to make room in our hearts once again for Akron’s prodigal son.
Four years from now we might look back on this time as the beginning of a great era in Cavalier basketball. I certainly hope so. Your GM is about to bet the farm on a 6’10” stat stuffer, non-clutch, so-called elite player who has never seen playoff intensity and disappears in the 4th quarter. Isn’t there some oath you took when you acquired the team? A “never trade for another Danny Ferry” clause?? If not, then I hope there is one for whoever buys the team from you at the cut rate you’ll be offering.
The future is now.
Yea if four straight trips to the finals with two championships is reeking of Miami then let me reek all day!!!!
I think a deal is all but in place the dates even match up as to when Wiggins can be traded.
How many Timberwolves games have you seen, Love disappears in the fourth quarter? C’mon man! Besides if you have been happy the last four years you must be a sadist.
Also, Mcdermott’s contact kicks in them, but I agree it seems that we have agreed and Wiggins is gone. I don’t think we had to give in this early and that we could have played it out longer but not much to do about it now.
Sounds like a good deal to me.
I can’t believe some people. How do you pass this up?
dear rocko –
stop being so stupid.
you have the greatest player on the planet on your team who is currently 30. he probably has 3 to 5 elite year ahead of him. the time is now.
how many ‘cant miss’ prospects miss? how may 25 year old top 10 players in the league fall off a cliff production wise?
love is the prefect fit for this team because he doesnt have to be “the guy” – he has to be number 3 or 2.
you may be fine ‘waiting for next year’, i cant wait for this year.
Because it totally handcuffs you.You have no flexibility if Love signs a max. Yes he will improve the team but what if he goes down mid playoffs? We would have been in the same place with Wiggins. They have to win it all with Love if they make the trade. They are all in now with Love, which may not be a bad thing if Love stays healthy.
This isn’t entirely true. The Cavs will have use of the MLE as well as the Bi-Annual exception. If the trade for K Love ends up being a 2018 first, the Cavs will still have three first round picks next season. They also will have Brendan Haywood’s expiring contract next year to trade.
Regardless, even if the Cavs did not make this trade, they would not have much cap flexibility moving forward.
With a core of KyrieLoveLebron, I’m not too worried about their cap flexibility since they have the ammo to at least make one other large trade. Hopefully Gilbert’s wallet agrees.
cant wait for this year – so awesome
I’m not so sure. We all know they want Wiggins. We know they’d want McDermott from the Bulls. Both are eligible to be traded around then. *If* we still haven’t officially offered Wiggins, they would still want to wait until then to see if they could net him or DM and then pick from the offers as presented. Maybe we have the framework of them getting Bennet & Thad Young & a bunch of first rounders, but they still want to wait to see if they can get their targets. Can’t wait to find out. And yes, these stacked roster issues are so much more fun than our previous woes…
Love makes them a Finals team. Wiggins doesn’t.
Enough of this prospect nonsense, it’s time to go all in.
I will be sorely disappointed with Griffin, if he just hands over Wiggins without Minn having any real leverage.
Any professional with any business acumen understands this.
The “Trade Wiggins NOW” crowd has no clue. I’ll play poker with them any day of the week, and leave them lying unconscious and naked in the gutter.
Fight the power.
You know I agree with you. Yet, we constantly see the comments reflect as if it’s Love or Wiggins even here in this thread.
Prove it.
We may very well lose Wiggins, but giving up him, Bennett, Waiters, and 2 first rounders is absurd.
Especially, when there are no other alleged offers that even warrant that scale of counter-offer on our part.
Although, I did read that sources (There’s that word…) are saying that Griffin wants Corey Brewer in the deal if Wiggins is to be involved. Sources.
You have to be joking. The big man down low they’ve been lacking for years and can score from the outside too?
You’re mad about losing Bennett?
smell me, smell me, yeah yeah baby, smell me!!
I haven’t read any recent reports that show anything more than Bennett, pick(s), and Wiggins. Is Waiters a certainty to be dealt, too?
good points. Plus, they will always be able to sign their rookies to deals. So if they make those first-rounders count next season, you could stock your team with some real good bench guys, or even a starter. Maybe Waiters becomes trade bait, and you can do better than a mid-round pick? So many options with all of those draft picks.
i agree with the Win Now mode. Pacers just lost their talisman. the Conference is there for the taking.

Wiggins, Bennett and a #1 draft pick is what I hear no Waiters and no additional #1s.
That’s why they play the games…I’ll add you to the list to remind you when the time arrives!
The “San Antonio route” requires all your stars to be willing to take paycuts. If we can convince Lebron Irving, and Love to play for $12-15M a year instead of $16-20M, let’s do it. The other part of the San Antonio route is good scouting and drafting, which paying a bunch of money to Love doesn’t prevent. Nothing about adding Love prevents us from being San Antonio – other factors will.
“there are no other alleged offers that even warrant that scale of counter-offer on our part.”
There are no other offers (alleged or not) that touch one with Wiggins in it. An offer without Wiggins is easily surpassed. That’s the only issue to focus on. It’s a steep jump in price, but the only way that you get Love is if you give up Wiggins. Nothing else you can offer will be taken.
What is “the same place” that you can get with Wiggins?
And with all this handcuffing and flexibility talk, I’m assuming that the keep-Wiggins crowd wouldn’t want to add Love even without giving up Wiggins and would let Wiggins walk when he was in line for a max contract. Right? You can’t handcuff yourself and have no flexibility with three max contracts in Lebron, Irving, Wiggins.
I don’t know that Gilbert has ever been averse to spending (remember Shaq?)…but, this new CBA may be a little different, as the stakes are much higher to over-spend.
