Most of what Terry Pluto wrote about the events leading up to the Kevin Love deal you probably already knew, but it was a good read as a reminder of what all had to break the Cavaliers’ way in order to have this unbelievable summer and roster turn around.

Congrats to the Columbus Clippers for clinching the division and a spot in the IL playoffs.

Yep. This is really happening.

This is the ball Navy will use against Ohio State on Saturday.

I have to say, I was nervous enough about the Navy game before Braxton Miller was injured. Navy’s offense is not what you want to face right out of the gate. That defense better be sharp or it could be a long opening day for the Buckeyes.

The Uni Watch college football compilation piece is up over at ESPN. Hadn’t seen this NC State helmet before. Not a fan.

Ok, so I have another new board game review for you this week. The game is called Jamaica. It is for 2-6 players, although I don’t think I would recommend it as a two player. In Jamaica, each player is a pirate captain in a race around the island of Jamaica. Along the way you have to manage the inventory of your ship’s hull, including food for your crew, gun powder for your cannons and of course gold. The pirate with the most gold and treasure at the end of the race is the winner.
Jamaica is a great looking game. The art and attention to detail in the board, cards and all the components are really top notch. I think this is a game that families or any mix of people would enjoy. I have played this with just adults and had fun, and I could easily see my daughter playing this with just her friends and enjoying it.
Each round is divided into day and night with an action taken by each pirate in both. The actions are determined by a pair of dice, the cards in your hand and the captain of that round. It might sound complicated, but trust me it isn’t. But you aren’t just rolling dice to see how many spaces you move. You have to make decisions, and I really like that about the game.
As if you couldn’t tell, I would most definitely recommend this game. Once everyone knows how to play, the game shouldn’t take more than 45 minutes to play, which makes it a nice medium length game. If you haven’t played a racing game -or if the only racing games you are familiar with are games like Sorry- do yourself a favor and pick this one up. you can find it for between $40 and $55 dollars. You aren’t likely to find this one at a big retailer. You’ll likely have to get one online or visit a gaming store.

I don’t love the texture in the black part of the helmet, but I do like the real wolf eyes. Although on the back of the helmet, the opposing team would only see it if they’re trying to chase you down.
Reminds me of a No Fear hat I used to have ~20 years ago – had eyes on the back.
Love those helmets.
The helmets remind me of this: http://www.greekk.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/product_full/201304/3d-t-shirt-white-cat.4482-21584.jpg
Why is it staring into my soul?!?
Lol. It’s staring *through* your soul.
I personally think NC State would have been better off going with the 3 Wolfs 1 Moon emblem: http://timberwolfhq.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/827ac0a398a0fa7414b61210.L.jpg
If those were their jerseys, they would get all 4 playoff spots.
I actually could get behind the textured black if it wasn’t for the red. I also do wonder if the NCAA wouldn’t allow the eyes on the front of the helmet. It would be a cool effect (and potentially distracting for the opponent).
I wondered about that as well – the eyes on the front. That could be a very cool/intimidating look if they were right above the facemask opening.
From the Uni-watch link:
Like the USF helmets. Both of them. They have a cool logo and they utilize it well in both concepts without going over the top.
Florida State’s changes are dumb. Duke has done similar, but they are Duke, so noone really cares.
Striped numbers are dumb even if it wasn’t Michigan.
Purdue’s “selfie” helmet is dumb, but it’s Purdue so noone really cares.
Oklahoma’s alt-uni’s are terrible. Ghastly bad combos.
Air Force’s uniforms are great.

and, I love that the Cocktail Party will have both in home jerseys. UCLA v. USC looks amazing with the blue v. red look and I wish more rivalry games went that route.
like UConn… http://uniformcritics.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/uconn-13-bluewhite-1-675×380.jpg
Great audio interview with Trevor Bauer. Sort of starts out slow, but gets interesting later on. It’s very much about his approach to pitching (all that Effective Velocity stuff) and delves a little into his controversial times with the Diamondbacks. Also check out the link to the companion article in the Beacon.

Yeah but they went with a more mascot-y look. I’d like to see the eyes NC State used on the front.
Best board game ever…
Jamaica seems a lot like the game Pirates Cove. Have you tried that one out by any chance? It has 6 islands (I think) that you plunder each round with the ultimate goal of being the pirate that collects the most treasure.
