August 6, 2014Trent Richardson ladies and gentlemen-
“It doesn’t get to me. A year ago, they were ready to love me. And this year, they are going to love me — I guarantee it,” Richardson said. “From where I was even a few months ago to now, there’s no turning back.”
Hey, I wish no ill on Richardson. I hope he finally is healthy. Call me skeptical about his ability to stay healthy. [Yahoo! Sports]

Craig Ehlo was addicted to painkillers. He went to jail. Now he is on the road to recovery. Listen to his story here.

Agree with Dustin Fox, this was the tweet of the day.
Tweet of the year RT @mdotbrown: LeBron just looks lighter cause he's not carrying Wade anymore.

I’m excited to talk about a few new games this week. The first is called Sushi Go. It is a card game in a tin from Gamewright.
It is a drafting game, in which players pick a card from their dealt hand and then pass that hand to the next person. You score points for the different kinds of cards that you play. The cards have a sushi theme obviously, and have a cartoon artwork look to them. It is a fantastic family game for 3-5 players. The box will tell you it is for 2-5 players. It lies. This is not a fun 2 player game.
It is played in three rounds and doesn’t take more than 20 minutes for a game. I highly recommend this one for a quick game or filler. We haven’t played just once since we got it. Usually we play three games when we crack the box lid. If you are an Amazon Prime member and get free shipping, get it through Amazon.

The second game I played is the Dungeons and Dragons board game Wrath of Ashardalon. To be fair, I am writing this ‘review’ after just one play. I played it over the weekend at a friend’s house.
I was not a big fan of this one. I am not really a fan of D&D to begin with, so perhaps the game had a strike against it from the start. I tried to keep an open mind.
The game board itself is made up of tiles that you add to the board as you explore. I like this mechanic in a game, but with this one all the tiles were just hallways that a monster was going to occupy and you were going to have to kill. You didn’t have to build characters, as the game comes with several and you choose which to play. It is a cooperative game in that you are working together to accomplish the mission and stay alive. There may be an overall winner for the person who kills the most monsters, but we really didn’t concern ourselves with that.
The whole game was really just rolling a 20-sided die to see if you hit the monster or it hit you. There wasn’t even that much variety in the types of monsters that you encountered. At least in the game I played. Not really a fan, but if you like Dungeons and Dragons and don’t have the time to invest in developing characters or making up adventures, this one may be for you.

Had to figure something was wrong when he was arrested for piling up his wife’s clothes outside and setting them on fire. Oh, and he had to be restrained from jumping into said pile of burning clothes.
Quite glad that he has entered the rehabilitation stage and I hope that he is able to stay the course with it. Back injuries are brutal (thankfully I only know 2nd hand) and I suspect he’ll have more issues with it in the future, so hopefully he can manage it without relapsing.
Well, not much in the way of comments in this thread today, so let’s try to lighten the mood with Cheerios’ new ad HowToDad:

I met Ehlo and his wife when I was in high school (a friend was their next door neighbor in Fairlawn). I remember thinking that they were perfect–good looking, nice, happy people with a nice family life. Just perfect Barbie and Ken. I guess it’s a cautionary tale–even the least expected could fall prey and succumb to addiction. Hope he stays on the straight and narrow and continues to recover.
D&D is still around and alive? I tried this game once but just couldn’t get into it.

Indians making major renovation to Progressive Field. My sources tell me they’ll be removing the entire upper deck so that the place looks more populated.
wow – this is the first i ever heard of his domestic violence arrest, or prescription drug addiction issues.
i played High School basketball against Ehlo in Texas for 3 years. (76-77, 77-78, 78-79 seasons).
we are same age, he played for Monterrey High School in Lubbock, TX.
i played for Pampa High School, in Pampa, TX.
our 2 teams were often the top 2 teams in our district, and had a very big rivalry.
(we were typically the only top level teams in northern part of state. most all other top Texas high school basketball teams, were always from Dallas/Ft Worth, or Houston areas.)
i knew Ehlo fairly well. we also attended Gerald Meyers summer basketball camps together, every summer in Lubbock for years. he was always a very nice & good guy, back then.
he was already his near his full height of 6 ft 8 inches, by his sophomore year of HIGH SCHOOL, and always played CENTER in high school. (he was tallest guy on their team, and one of the tallest players in our entire HS district of schools.) then he went on to play small forward in Jr College, then shooting guard in College & Pros.
after HS, i went on to play College at Texas Tech Univ in Lubbock, TX. (his hometown)
like most all good Lubbock High School athletes, Ehlo was also “planning” to go to Texas Tech for College basketball. and he would have recd scholarship from Tech, as he was one of the best players in our entire district his Jr and Sr years.
but Gerald Meyers was the head coach of Texas Tech back then.
and Meyers daughter was also the same age/grade as Ehlo, and she also attended Lubbock Monterrey High School, with Ehlo. and that daughter dated Ehlo, most of their Junior & Senior years.
then near end of Senior year, Ehlo got caught in her bedroom one night, by Gerald & his wife, after the daughter had snuck Ehlo into the house, late one Friday or Saturday night, after they had a date earlier that night.
needless to say, Gerald Meyers hated Ehlo after that. – LOLOL
Meyers & his wife were very religious (like many people in Texas), and they made their daughter completely stop dating Ehlo, after that. and Meyers would then not offer Ehlo a scholarship to Texas Tech, after that either.
so after planning most of his high school career to go to Texas Tech for basketball, then last minute, Ehlo had to go to Odessa Junior College, a few hours south of Lubbock.
after 2 years there, he went to Washington State for final 2 years of College ball. then drafted by the Rockets, for his rookie year in NBA.
i saw Ehlo back in Lubbock, that summer before he went to NBA, playing pick-up games with him at the Texas Tech student rec center. that was the last time i have ever seen him. (except for on TV – LOL)
